Re: Free Mods???

This post isn't going to be much help at all, but I just HAVE to jump in and let you know this. First, don't think of me as an *******. But why did you just ask "where can you get it, and how much does it cost?" on FREE mods? You gotta be careful, those free mods can really add up.. I've got about 8k in free stuff.. .

A TB bypass involves taking the two coolant hoses that run into and out of the throttlebody to warm it up on cold starts and connecting them, thus bypassing the TB. An airfoil is, if I remember correctly, a piece of aluminum shaped in a scoop right below your air filter, creating sort of a ram air effect, forcing more air, as well as dirt and other contaminants into your engine bay.

No. You're talking about the "ram-air mod"

Air foil is the thing that goes inside the throttle body where the TB has a sort of hole between its two blades and smoothes it out.

Re: Free Mods???

You can get an air foil from ebay. I got mine for $25 with shipping in it. It actually took off .2sec on 1/4 time. Also some of the guys were talking about cutting out the cat and welding a pipe in its place. If you have a friend that does that it could help.

Re: Free Mods???

under 1000 mods

410 gears 190.00 biggest bang for buck on m6... thats if you and a friend can put them in.

exhaust cut out 60.oo bucks... install after the y pipe goes into one 3 inch. while you doing it cut the cats off.

sticky tires = drag radials 250 for 2?... its all pointless if your tires are spinning... key to speed is hooking up.

cai, (cold air induction) frees up the amount of air going into the engine... less restrictive. i have moroso i got it for 199.95 some will cost more but they are all basically the same... P.S. those homemade ebay intakes are crap...don't buy.

275 left-over to pay for the stuff you didn't expect when adding gears... tire mounting and balance on the radials, installation of the cut out. pay for gear installation.

you would feel a HUGE DIFFERENCE. these are all upgrades that would be good no matter what direction u went with the car. so your not going to have to redo it all in 2 years if you decide you want a g machine or drag car

You would need to do those runs the sameday with the engine at the same temp and 1000 more variables to make that .2 a fact. Yes they help but..........

Re: Free Mods???

Since you have a 95, you don't use a 'pipe connector' for the throttle body bypass as described in the other posts above..
Here's how to do 95-7 TB bypass, from shoebox' site:

exactly. look at your 60fts and look at the DA when you ran.... there will be a difference. Airfoil is worth like maybe 3hp or something like that... not 2 tenths in the 1/4

I would avoid cat removeal on a stock car. A cutout is one thing, where you open up to run at the track or whatnot. But the cat does a lot of good things, and the gaings from removing a working cat are minimal (if that).

The biggest advantage of running on cats is that they catalyze CO into harmless gasses. I'm involved in the research for a lawsuit where some older folks died due to CO exposure from their car, and was shocked at how much CO comes out of a car with no cats, especially when it runs rich (like during warmup).

You can get yorself killed faster than you think. Keep the cats.

Hey just noticed that you're in Canada. www.fasttoys.net has a warehouse in Winnipeg so you save on shipping by eliminating brokerage and duty costs. Their site is in US$'s but they just convert it at the days rate when you buy things. You should be able to do the free TB bypass, Airfioil, CAI and Catback for under $1000 and a mail order tune would be well worth it also either pcm forless or madz28 have a lot of good feedback
