Arrow Fred, ShoeBox..help please

Gents, been having a problem with my 97Z28 6 spd. The car simply will not fire up. It'll crank forever, and if it catches, it dies immediately. I've read posts regarding P0372 and I've been trying to duplicate the solutions that were presented. I have thoughtlessly replaced my coil, ICM, and PCM after getting the aforementioned code. I scanned it agaiin today on a Snap-On scanmaster and came up with the following freeze-frame:
Eng load 7% Coolant 25 deg C
ST/LT trim s -1/-2 0.0 MAP (KPa) 38
RPM 1906 Veh speed 0 mph
TPS 0% MAF 17.82 gm/sec

I'm a beginning car enthusiast, so please be patient with me. Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

Re: Fred, ShoeBox..help please

that code points to the distrubuter high res signal. I would be checking the condition of the connector going to the optispark for corostion and damadge etc etc etc. Usualy a high res fault will still alow the car to start but might not run correctly. a low res fault will prevent teh car from starting due to lack of a primary ign signal. Liek I said, I sugest looking at the opti harnes. YOu could also take a look at THIS . It could lead you to some anwers

HB I've replaced the harness leading to the opti from the PCM.

One more thing, the scanner said that the lo res was 60.21 degree negative..not sure what that means...thanks for the reply...

Under what conditions did you get that frame? If it won't start, why does engine load = 7%, RPM = 1906, and MAF = 17.8gps? That looks like a frame from an engine that is running, except for TPS = 0%. Have you actually seen P0372 on the scanner?

Sir, it was a freeze frame. I can only assume that it was flashed into the scanner's memory when it fired up and died immediately.

Yes, the car threw a P0372 code. I"ve since cleared it. Attempted to start it again, alas, with no luck.

Re: Fred, ShoeBox..help please

HBH...been following your trouble shooting thing today...

1. Using the noid light on the fuel injector harness.. it doesn't flash. The only time it will flash is when the air pump is energized. Which happens alot with the key on engine off... Could that be another problem by itself?

2. Testing for a pulsing light at the green wire coming from the coil...very faint..no pulsing light there...
2.b. It's a brand new coil in there now...

Last comment-I have the MSD Digital 6 ignition thingy...there are two wires, black and orange coming from the MSD to the coil...they both light up when the check light is on the positive battery terminal...

Thank you for the help guys...I'd love to get this car running..

Re: Fred, ShoeBox..help please

Sounds like you quit following HBH's guide when you got no pulsing on the injectors. Looks like no opti signals.

Don't take this the wrong way, but is there gas in it?

I've trouble shot a car half the day once only to find out the damn thing was out of gas.

Re: Fred, ShoeBox..help please

Forgot to mention that tanik's full of gas, fuel pressure is holding at a constant 42 psi, with no gradual bleed offf of pressure. So, I'm thinking that fuel pump is good...Thanks for the reply.
