I bought my 94 Z28 M6 for 4k flat with 140k miles. I started with some mods everybody mentioned, trust me, headers, CAI and cat back are your best choice at first. I do not recomend any internal engine work. If you plan on a bigger valvetrain or ported heads, rebuild the engine. It will start to burn oil a lot if you do not rebuild, especially if you remove the heads. Some LT's, CAI, cat back and gears would be your best bet.

Thanks for the welcomes and the tips, Im not really looking for a 11 or 12 sec car, just a nice low buck mid-high 13 second car. Looks like I have a good starting point. Hopefully i can get some 13.7ish et's with some inexpensive bolt ons. Id like to stay with the 2.73s if possible, for gas mileage reasons, plus while the gears themselves are inexpensive, I dont think my dad and I have the mechanical ability to properly change the ring and pinion w/o risking breaking somethin else.. The more I drive this thing around the more I like it.

In that case I would definetely do headers, CAI, cat back, maybe a 52mm tb would help a little. ALthough, I hear camaros do 14 flat in the 1/4 mile stock.

if all you want is 13.7's you can do that real easy:

Drag radials

Traction alone could make you run that even bone stock

Personally, I would probably do shorty headers, catback/muffler and CAI. That should come in under $600 or so if you do it right and you should have a nice mid 13 second car that sounds good.

This would be a great first "mod." www.auto-rx.com Get that engine cleaned up and the seals conditioned somewhat then start with some bolt ons and go from there.

Thats alot of miles! Nice to be the buyer, because you can usually get good deals on high mileage cars, just sucks when it comes time to sell! I have an 89 bucik lesabre t-type, 250k on original motor, car has 260k now, 100k on the newer motor. I thought that was alot!

For 13s, I'd get a cai and a cutout. Maybe drag radials, if you can;t get into the 13s with the first two. 13S aren't too hard to get with these cars.

I had a 95 ta, had a cai, cutout, hollowed cat, 3.73s, accel ignition, airfoil, and on drag radials, would run high 12s. I never ran it in the quarter, but did the 1/8 mile to 1/4 conv, and came out to 12.89 or so. I plan to do my 93 similar, but with headers this time. I paid 2900 for mine, but was wrecked, only 50k though. I'll have just under 4k when done, thats with ta bumper cover and side skirts.

I don't have the numbers any more, this is over 2 years ago. I sold the car and didn't keep any time slips, etc... I promise you I'm not making this up. I'm not one of those people who bs on message boards. All of the conversion from 1/8 to 1/4 said high 12s. Now it might have never got into the 12s, never had it to a 1/4 mile track. It also didn't have an exhaust from the axle back on those runs. There were more mods, but nothing major. I'll see what I can dig up. It was a 6 speed car, b&m shifter, aftermarket clutch, etc... I have a 69 and a 70 road runner, 440s, that I race. I only had the modded 95 as I took it on trade.

welcome to the board!

first things first, as someone else stated, i would get the car checked out really good. looks really nice for somthing with that many miles, so im sure whoever had it took care of it.

try and find out as much as you can as far as the tranny, engine, rear, etc. there IS the possibility that it COULD be the orig motor/tranny, and if it is, i wouldnt wast a whole lot of money on mods. i dont even know if there are any sure fire ways to tell if the motor has been rebuilt. you could always take a chance, thats up to you, but any motor with 27xK miles is gonna be pretty tired.

lastly, if your only looking for a solid 13 sec ride, i would take it to the strip after some intial feshening up, and see what it does NOW. mine, in bone stock trim, ran a best of 13.6. many others have run 13s with stock LT1 cars. if you dont turn a 13 sec pass stock though, it wont take much at all to get you there.

again, welcome!

The owner didnt think the tranny had been rebuilt. It shifts great and I cant detect any slipping. So it may have been rebuilt w/o him knowing. He said his father was the one that did most of the driving, highway miles across arizona.

id say a tune up and a baseline dyno run would be EXTREMELY useful. if your car is still pulling strong to the tune of 230-250 rwhp (what ive seen stock LT1 autos put down) then get to modding. if its a lil sickly just enjoy it and save money for a rebuild or stroker, and do a few little things like a muffler for better tone and a home made CAI. no sense in modding it until you have a plan, and id wait for a tune up and baseline before making one. best of luck for ya and do us all a favor, avoid posting 'which catback is best?' or 'how much will i gain from this?' or 'how fast will my car be after this?' type posts.....they are a dime a dozen and easily searched for and found. the 'regulars' and vets will know what im talking about! welcome to the fam man!

My friend got the new model of the gtech, while I know they are not too accurate it should give me some kind of idea of what Im putting down. The good thing about things like a catback and CAI is that if and when this motor gives up I will be able to continue using them. Like I say I dont really have any big plans for it as of now. The car is plenty fast already and im just lookin for a solid mid-high 13 second car, that should be able to take 95% of all the cars around. And I wont have to worry about those few imports that are actually built up like I did when I had my stang

Its probally faster than 95% of the cars on the road now! Although there are alot of pretty quick cars from the factory these days. As long as it runs strong, it'd take very little to see 13s. A base line dyno or even a few stock 1/4 mile times would be great. Then do a few mods and see where ya get. Both obviously were mentioned, but nopthing is better than real world numbers.
