Which Forged Pistons?

Im planning on rebuilding my Lt1 in the next few months, i was wondering which forged pistons are the best bang for the buck..im not building a race motor or anything, just looking to strengthen up the bottom end. Is there any rebuild kits you guys have used and were happy with?...i was looking at the summit forged piston rebuild kit..anyone using it?

thanks for your help...
Tony

Do you even need a forged piston? Perhaps a relatively cheap set of KB hypers for $260ish would be more than enough for what you're doing.. .I'd run those before I ran a super cheap forged piston.

Otherwise.. like these guys said, SRP, Wiseco, Ross, etc.

I was wondering the difference between the SRP low compression 16cc dish pistons and the J&E extreme duty low compression 28cc dishes.

So far all I can tell is the dish. Everything seems to be the same down to the compression height.

I was looking to run a high horsepower motor (around 800) and didn't want to take the chance of having it go due to something that could have been prevented beforehand.

So basically:

Is there a stength difference between these two sets of pistons?

I've looked around, and all I could find was that J&E said that the J&E's were better and, on an unrelated topic, more expensive.

I've got the rest of my rotating assembly sitting in my garage, and I've still got to purchase heads, so the dish issue really doesn't affect me that much.

thanks,
Brett

You'll get a LOT less compression off a 28cc dish vs the 16cc SRP's. My 16cc SRP's on my 383 will give me ~11.2:1 CR.

28's would be more for a forced induction app...I'd have to do the math though.

Anybody heard of Diamond Pistons?
I believe Thunder Racing carries them.

TRW's are quite heavy, as I recall.

For reference, here's the SRP 16cc Inverse Domes that I got. 402g's each.

JEs are machined differently which makes them stronger. My engine biulder showed me the two side by side and pointed out the difference. I think it had something to do with the wrist pin area. The JEs were cut from the solid piston while the SRPs were actually cast that way I used the SRP 16cc dish.
