Re: Forged piston question

Should have gone in "LT1 Based Engine Tech" section.
If it's bored 20 over you need 20 over pistons. ie. 4.020" pistons. Now you just have to deside what brand or how much you want to spend!

Re: Forged piston question

What's the rest of the engine going to look like? HP, max RPM, power adder?

Impossible to select pistons without at least that basic info.

Moving to LT1 Based Engine Tech.

Re: Forged piston question

well i talk to a shop called national speed inc in North carolina and told them i was in the market to the the engine bored, get some performance cams and get the head ported and while there doing it get it rebuilt while they were doing it and asked them what they could do since i dont know much about working on cars. they said the most they would probably go with boring is 20 over with some wiseco pistons keep the stock rods. and i told them i had some bbk shorty headers and already had bbk throttle body. they said they would go with the 20 over with the wiseco pistons stock rods switch out the shortys with longtubes and an aftermarket intake manifold and some other stuff. they said it would cost about $2200 for diss and assembling the engine and $500 for the tune at the end. they were throwing out some prices for the other stuff. but they said in order to really feel some power results it would end up costing me about $5-$7000. what you guys think about what they told me

Re: Forged piston question

First thing you only have one cam no cams. Second I am building my motor for just under 2k and it will be around 380rwhp; it should run high 11s low low 12s, so you can build a powerful setup for a lot less than 7k. Power is all in the heads and cam, you can build a stock 350 and put out some good power. I am ordering my heads from this man http://elliottsportworks.com/; I would recommend Lloyd if your looking to make some power. Then you can just buy a short block of your liking and be good to go.

Re: Forged piston question

I'd be very suspicious of a shop that recommends an "aftermarket intake manifold" for an LT1. The stocker will support 500HP, with minor tweeking to match the ported heads.

If you're really looking to set the world on fire, take a look at these guys:

www.advancedinduction.com

They hold all the records for engines with ported stock castings.

Re: Forged piston question

I am running wiseco pistons they seem to be good quality. As injuneer said there is no need going with a different intake, I am at 600rwhp and still useing the stock intake with minor port matching. Do your homework and you can save some cash, you dont have to spend $7000 to make pretty good hp.
Good luck

Yes, they port your stock casting heads.

They can pretty much do whatever you need.

Re: Forged piston question

you can do that or buy another set and send those. You can usually pick up a set for under $200 in the for sale section. I also recommend Advanced inductions, but elliots is also a great company and a super nice guy.

Just look for someone selling a set of stock casting heads. If you go with AI, make sure they are casting numbers 10207643 or 10128374. They are the more desirable heads for porting.
