If you're looking for a consensus opinion...? I think most folks would go the forged route, provided their budget allowed for it.
Why?
Because it'll never be cheaper to build more capability into your block than RIGHT NOW.

But I'll stand by my opinion that if you're SURE that 360-380 RWHP is all you want, the cast crank / hyper pistons are OK.
If you ever crave more power down the road, though..... You'll wish you'd gone all forged.
Re: Forged 383 or econo 383??????
I just went through the same thought process when I ordered my Golen's 383 short block. I decided to go with the forged pistons, the standard forged rods, and the cast steel crank. Chad told me that the cast steel crank is good for around 700 FWHP, which is way more than I'll ever need in this car. I went with Lloyd Eliott's LE1 heads & cam, and I'm told that this setup will probably run out of steam at around 6200 rpm. So with all that in mind, that's why I decided not to spend the extra money for the forged crank.
Lloyd already sent my heads back (they look great!) and my shortblock is getting shipped next week, so I'll see how all this works out when I get it together.

How much did yours cost? and how long have you been waiting for it. Chad said he is swamped with work right now. I wont get mine for 4-6 weeks.
I guess theres no harm in getting the forged 383 - forged crank and putting in a mild cam (305) since this will be my first cam swap. Then down the road after i do some suspension, tranny work, put in something bigger.

Re: Forged 383 or econo 383??????
It was the same price as published on Golen's website, plus $300 for the forged pistons. I also had him include a Melling oil pump, rear main seal kit, and front timing cover seal kit for another $116. It was around 4-5 weeks for the shortblock, plus it will be a few days for shipping.
I also decided it would not be wise to go cheap on the valve train components, with all the money I spent already. So, to complement the custom grind Comp Cam that Lloyd provided with his heads, I'm using Comp Cams High Energy lifters, Hi-Tech pushrods, 26918 beehive springs, High Energy rocker studs (w/GMPP 14011051 guideplates), and Pro Magnum rockers. I already had the GMPP Extreme Duty timing set from my previous Hot Cam install. Another thing you will need is a set of 30 lb injectors (or larger) if you don't already have them.
Before selecting the cam, I'd talk to someone knowledgeable. The stroker engine might have different lift and duration requirements than a stock stroke engine.

I'm in the same boat but I'm going with an all forged set up....now if I decide on getting a blower or n20 later would I have to get the blocked machined all over again while getting blower/nitrous pistons installed?
I was thinking of just running the car with a blower/n2o cam/pistons for a while till I can afford the blower. What do you guys think?
