Flushin torque converter, How?
I flushed the trans on my 113k mile 97 z28. I don't know how often it was done but the much inside was FILTHY. It was black and full of metal pieces and the pan was covered a cm thick of gunk. I cleaned everything up and got as much as i could out. I even unplugged the line running to the rad and ran the car a little bit. I got over 5 quarts out. I put in some fresh dexron a clean new filter and gasket and the car runs sooo much smoother.
I was wondering for next time, how do i get the rest of the fluid out of the system. I know there is like 6+ quarts in there somewhere. I want to know how to do this without a machine because the machines cost a ton. I hear you got to drain the torque converter. Well how do you do this and where is it at? Is it infront or behind the drain pan. I saw a cover sort of thing in front of the pan and was going to take it off but the bolts were on too tight and i didnt have an impact wrench.

The only way to "flush" a converter is while the tranny is in the car. It still won't get all the crap out though. Don't ever hand someone your TC and money if they say they're going to flush it. There's no way to clean a converter without taking it apart.

Re: Flushin torque converter, How?
you can have a shop do a fulid exchange with a specilized machine. basically they sucl all the old out as the new is going in, including your convertor. On SOME cars the disconnect 1 cooler line and ans the old fluid is running out the new is suck in. They do that until however many quarts your systems holds comes out plus about 1 to be safe. Fluid exchance is not ment to remove the crap in the pan or change the filter just to make sure 100% new fluid is added.
