FLP Long Tubes

I'm thinking of swapping out my SLP shorties for the FLP longtubes with the dual cat Y pipe.

Anyone have any experience with these headers as far as fit and clearances are concerned.

I want to run dual cats and am willing to spend a little more than coated Jet hots and custom y pipe if the FLP system fits up well without too much modding.

Thanks in advance.

My thoughts on FLPs:
1. V-clamp bolts are too short IMO.
2. Y-pipe doesn't fit very well without some pushing and pulling (maybe a common problem with all y-pipes).
3. Plug #5 is still a bitoch to change (maybe a common problem with other LTs).
4. Supplied gaskets/bolts are cheap for the price you pay for the headers (I'm sure it's the same no matter what brand of headers you buy).
5. Oil filer access is pretty good.
6. Ground clearane is pretty good.

I agree....but I went .4 to .5 quicker with the FLP's over stock mainfolds.

Do the cats come ready to use with the y pipe or do you have to weld them in?

The cats are held in the Y pipe with the V clamps, or can be substituted for off road pipes.

The cats and ORPs are interchangeable and ready to use. They same length with the same flange and are bolted on with the V-clamp. Since you are OBD2, you will still need two O2 sims regardless if you use the cats or ORPs.

It would be cheaper to get Jet Hots for like 550 shipped and get a custom Y-pipe or the cheaper route and get True Duals IT will be loud but sound ohhhh soooo Gooood.

Later,

I put a set on this summer. Agree with most of what was said.
V clamp bolt length is ok.
If you have a stock oil cooler you will need to remove it or put a remote filter kit on (I did that.)
Y pipe is a bear to get lined up right, but doable.
The DS y pipe is really close to a frame rail, and the rail needs to be massaged for added clearance or the pipe will bang on it.
I also moved gas lines and brake lines as the y pipe goes right under them and I didn't like it.
Plug access isn't great on a couple cyl., but changing plugs with the manifolds sucked too.

Use plenty of heat sleeving to proect wires around the pipes. Starter, O2s, ABS sensor, brake and fuel lines.
Use good gaskets, not the ones they send.
Put the dipstick tube back in before you tighten PS header.
You'll like them.
I picked up a full second on stock motor with these and slicks.

This all sounds pretty good to me so far. Everybody's running Jethots with custom y pipes but I'm willing to spend a little more and wanted some opinions on the FLP's. I suppose I can weld in some O2 bungs if I really want the rear sensors or I can edit them out with my OBDII LT-1 Edit when I get around to using it.

Is the Y pipe exit 3" or 2 3/4". I have the 3" Magnaflow but put in a Moroso Twister bullet inline before the driveshaft as it was too loud for my 45 years. Works pretty good. Only slightly louder than a stock muffler now.

Does anyone have any pics of their instalation?

The y-pipe probably won't fit exactly right. Just bolt it up as best you can and drive it to an exhaust shop. Then undo it and assemble the pass side exactly tight. Then check the driver's side and have them make one small bend to correct it.

Also check the flanges for flatness before you install.

Thumbs up

I have had them for about 2 years now. They are a nice set up. As people have already noted, there are a few tweeks that are needed. I have the luxery of have FLP in my back yard to help me when I needed. They are great sounding & now the V clamps are even stronger then when I bought them. The clearence is great but from time to time some people get banging on the floorboard. The plug access is something to be addressed. Cause it sux! However since I've had them on & off a few times now & figured out some tricks. I install the plugs after I get the headers in place but not completely bolted down. I use their Gaskets without problems to. I use some ARP header bolts instead of FLP's. They use a 3/8 wrench for more clearence around the primaries. Also you will want to go with Over the valve cover wire kit. You will burn wires with them in the stock positions. I am using the side mount from Thunder now with no problems. Check my sig for pics. The FLP is a very nice system once all the bugs are out. I don't think there is a better sounding exhaust set up then what I have. I run the cats on the car & it sounds sweet with my Corsa. I take the Cats off & throw the offroads on when racing. Things get real loud then.

Good Luck

I was one of the lucky ones on the FLP's. My only problem was the floorboard kept banging and I finally got that worked out. The car really woke up with the FLP's and all my bolt-ons.
