Flowmaster to Hooker?

I just replaced Flowmaster muffler with a Hooker muffler and it seems to be quieter. Is it always going to be like this, or does it need time to break in? I thought it was going to sound alot better than my Flowmaster.

And what sounds better will always be a matter of opinion.

Re: Flowmaster to Hooker?

Hmmm...The Hooker cat-back I originally had on my '95 Z28 with stock manifolds/cat was actually a little louder than my current Flowmaster AT cat-back (80 series) with Mac headers + Random Tech highflow cat...

Although it has a very good tone, I'm actually very disappointed in how quiet the Flowmaster system is. That's why I'm thinking about replacing the cat with an offroad pipe soon to wake it up some.

Re: Flowmaster to Hooker?

Hooker is quiet until you get on it... I guess I have a different degree of loudness compared to others here... I read tons of threads before buying a muffler and Hooker got rave reviews from most... When I had it put on and drove off I was initially dissapointed... Expected it to be louder... As I got some miles on it, it did become somewhat louder.. But still not loud enough for my tastes.. Great tone, but on the quiet side... I stuck a pipe in the cat and it's as loud as I wanted it now... The exhaust became more raw and it did lose some of the tone, but it still sounds good to me.. That's my Hooker rant for the next buyer.

Hooker/great tone/quiet crusing/quiet idle/louder 2000rpm+ and half throttle.

The hooker aerochamber muffler is the best sounding muffler out there in my opinion. A flowmaster muffler is just overrated with the name, i hate the sound, and the flow rate, a hooker flows a lot better and sounds a lot better too. The hooker is quieter but it has a better sound. not necessarily louder just better sound

GL with it. Wish my Z had a Hooker on it. I just picked up a 2nd Z this past week and it has a flowlessmaster crap back on it. I cant wait to get it off! Flowmaster only sounds good on Mustangs IMHO.

I put the Hooker on when I did my Kooks long tubes. It is very quiet but I think it sounds great. It is lound when you get on it.
My car picked up 4mpg when I took off the flowmaster.

Re: Flowmaster to Hooker?

I though about replacing my flowmaster with GMMG a while back...I'm glad I didn't. Kook's LT's, 3" ORY and flowmaster = too quiet. A $30 cutout was the solution I was looking for.

Re: Flowmaster to Hooker?

Hooker does have a little bit of break in time. Did you replace the whole cat-back or just the muffler? Add Long tubes, and an ORY and you will love the sound.

Video in the sig.

YEah the hooker will be alot quieter until the rpms climb.

I can't open my cut-outs, If I don't have hearing protection in I can't hear for a few hours after I drive it.
