flowmaster or borla?
I also have the 80's series. Love it.
someone said something about interior resonance?
There's not much at all... in fact when i close the windows, I have to open them back up because I LOVE to hear my car as I am driving. I don't care HOW cold it is, I always have my window down. with the t-tops off? oh boy i am getting excited for summer just thinking about it!

If you plan on doing headers and dumping your cats plan on a new exhaust. Well, at least IMO, Borla blows goats on a car without cats and with headers. But if you keep your cats, then Borla doesn't sound THAT bad. But it still sounds like ***.
Yes get the borla it sounds BETTER, MUCH better and you'll get a small power increase...flowmaster systems seem to be inconsistant with power gains...I gained some on my IROC...a friend of mine gained some on his Z28, but another friend of mine saw almost NO increase (but he ran a different system then me and my other friend)...I imagine you'll get a decent power increase 5 to 8 hp maybe, but your butt will probably never know.
Both systems sound totally different than each other.
The Flowmaster sounds a LOT deeper to me and has that genuine muscle car sound to it at any rpm while the Borla is very distinctive in its tone and has a more race-car like sound to it IMO. As for flow characteristics, there won't be much difference between the two on a stock or mildly modified car, but a wide-open Borla will definitely begin to outflow the Flowmaster cat-back on cars making 325+ to the wheels with the difference becoming really noticeable at 375 and higher. But that's what a cutout (wide-open Borla) will basically do for you.
With that said, I think the Flowmaster exhaust sounds much better on any LT1 (especially on heavily modified set-ups). Borla with headers, no cats (even highflow cats), and engine work sounds flat out horrible to me...

well, because i hear my car ALL time time, and only go fast in in a small percentage of the time (WOT). i'd rather have a sound i love and doesn't restrict airflow anymore than stock, than one that i don't like, and gives me 5 maybe 10 more horsepower.
my vote is flowmaster. of course you could buy the borla, and sell it on the board to someone that likes borla, and make a profit.

Borla (1 1/2" plate), dual cats, FLP long tubes on a h/c car...sounds like a contemporary muscle car should. Does it sound like my '67 stroker BBC Chevelle? Nope, and likely never will. Now THAT's what a true musclecar should sound like.
Now if I can figure out how to drop the 496 into the engine bay of the f-body.

Make sure its the full 3" adjustable borla, and not the borla 'rear section' + stock I pipe they are selling. I'm just skeptical because of price. Good luck
