Flashing Multiple Misfire Code!!! Opti??Plug Wires?
Flashing Multiple Misfire Code!!! Opti??Plug Wires?
Well ive had a series of small problems lately with this car until the big ones started today...first my car threw the ses code 100(maf sensor) and ran alittle rough..but it would only come on once in a while...then i started gettin a arching from one of the wires and found out it was the coil wire..i replaced that and everything seemed fine until now..the car has bout 65,000 miles on it and i havent changed the plugs or plug wires yet since i got the car( have had 1 1/2 months)..well today when i drove it and started it up the flashing ses light came on Again and started driving Really rough and sputtering like crazy..shakes at idle too..every since then the code has not went off and even flashes at Idle sometimes!!..i had it scanned and found the new dreaded code..300(multiple misfire) as well has the 100 code too..dont know which plugs misfire though..Gas mileage is HORRIBLE as well..even before when the 100 code used to come up it never ran This rough!..i even unplugged the battery clear the code for sometime..well it was gone ..for only like TWO Minutes though!..and came right back up like i figured..then i was back to the Horrible running and Rich Smell of fuel..i was told this could be a whole host of things(opti/wires/plugs/egr/fuel pump/fuel filter)..but Please..based on the information im giving what does the likely culprit sound like??..any help would be Greatly appreciated ...
start simple
check
do all vents work
are vacuum hoses split, kinked, properly connected
throttle body, intake manifold, egr valve for vacuum leaks
crankcase ventilation valve/system for vacuum leaks
pcm grounds clean and secure
injector harness connections for proper injector/cylinder
ignition wires connected to proper cylinders
next step
iginiton off
disconnect ignition coil wire from distributor and install spark testor
with engine cranking does spark jump the tester gap
reconnect coil
check spark at ignition wires
check spark plugs for fouling, cracks, wear and gap (.5)
check resistance of coil (10,000 ohms)
check resistance of ignition wires (10,000)
distributor for carbon tracking, contamination, moisture, damage
next step is on to
ignition system
good luck

Code 300: (In your case with your symptons) and for your mileage you should have done wires a while back, so put a good set of Taylor or MSD's on with new plugs, including their coil wire provided and try it out, hopefully this will solve your problems. It's possible the OPTI is bad but that's the last thing I'd do if you've changed wires, plugs, etc. OPTI's sometimes get a bad rap unecessarily.
Code 100: My buddy's car got this a week ago, I unplugged his MAF, and replugged it in and no more code. Make sure no trash, bugs, dirt, etc has made it's way onto the little wires in the center of your MAF. They are fragile, clean with a cutip and alcohol at most.
Code 300: One more thing go ahead and put a new set of 02 Sensors on your car. They should be replaced every 10k miles, most don't but it cleared up Code 300 on mine.
good luck

ok im gonna take the car to a shop on monday morning..also i forgot to mention that my fuel pressure bounces around sometimes too while driving around while misfiring..i also think i have a small leak coming from the water pump seal which explains why it Could be the opti...does the fuel pressure boucing around alittle mean anything?..or narrow down to what the problem is??
