Are the flanges on my pacesetter LT's supposed to be perfectly flush?

I checked the straightness of the flanges on my LT's and they are a little off.

When I put a straight ruler to them, it is a little uneven. It's a bit higher in the middle of both headers--maybe about 1/8 of an inch higher in the middle.

Is this normal?

I think alot of us with pacesetters had this problem. You can try to fix it yourself(with a torch or hammer or by other means) or take it to a machine shop and have them fix it. When i first installed mine i never checked but after they were installed i had a horrible exhaust leak and found out that they were not straight. Mine straightened themselves out after some heat cycles and some header bolt tightening but im pretty sure that was luck and bad on the heads and i would not reccomend putting them on when they arent straight.

Mine were straight...I checked mine too since I had heard of this a few times as well. Kudos for being careful..

Don't believe this is all that rare for any headers. Wise to check flanges before installation or risk leakage. Had the same problem with my SLP dual-cat shorties.

Good luck with Pacesetter customer service, i email them like 9 months ago and still havent heard anything back.

But you can try to fix them and reuse them or you can try to get a better set.

Did you buy them directly from Pacesetter or through someone else, becasue i would go through the people you bought them through, its alot easier.

I took a huge belt sander to mine and sanded until everything was equally shiney. No leaks

Re: Are the flanges on my pacesetter LT's supposed to be perfectly flush?

I'm on my third pair now.

The first pairs flanges were 1/8" higher in the middle on both so I didn't attempt to put them on. Sent them back.

The second pair they sent was almost perfect but were the race version, not the ones with emissions hookups.

Third pair--opposite problem of the first. about 1/8" lower in the middle of the flange on one and the collecter was dented.

Am I being too picky or should I just install the third pair?

I getting realy pissed about this!

If ya got a set that is high in the middle use them.
Tighten the middle first then the two outside ones. They will spring enough to seal, after all that's what the gasket is for.

I had the same problems with my SLPs (single cat).I work in a tool shop so I got carried away and set it up in a surface grinder. I had to take about .030 off of the them , but they are perfectly flat now . The other thing you can try doing is cutting the mounting flange so each set of pipes bolt to the head separately.I have done this in the past and have had good luck with it.

both of mine were about 1/8" inch off, but they snugged up to the head just fine, no leaks yet.
