Flaky fuel pump connector was causing no start / full gauge.
Flaky fuel pump connector was causing no start / full gauge.
Leaving a parking lot today my engine just cut and coasted to a corner of the lot where I got stuck for a couple hours.
I knew it was a dead fuel pump or no power to it... my friend and I figured it must be something electrical b/c my fuel gauge was also pegged *way* past full.
Got it home after a tow and messed with the fuel pump to chassis wiring and got it to start.. then it died again. Jiggled it some more and noticed the connector pin for the purple wire on the *chassis* side of the connector is kinda loose, you can push it in and out. I take it this is not normal, the pins around it aren't dead solid, but they didn't move around anywhere near as much as this is.. I think the wire must have a bad contact.
I'm using the stock wiring harness with a racetronix pump. I had the racetronix harness on the car for a while but it proved to be problematic for me so I got rid of it.
Finally I jiggled it some more and was able to get it to start and run normally. Not taking it back out on the street till I go through the wiring completely, but my question is that loose contact and making sure that's probably the culprit.

Re: Flaky fuel pump connector was causing no start / full gauge.
Anyone else have this happen?
Car's dead again today (haven't tried since it started last night). I imagine the wire is out of place again.

My buddies car just did the EXACT same thing this past weekend, 100% the same.
You are right on track about the connector on the body, you can get up there and bend the pins a little to tighten them up. THere are three wires, purple, black, and grey. The problem is the black ground wire connector.
