Thumbs up Fixed!!!!!/victory!!!!

Background....

"Lost/Bummed" Thread...
https://www.camaroz28.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=661933

Dang. I replaced the Plugs, Wires, Optispark (dizzy), Coil, Ignition Control Module and Ignition Switch. I just pulled the column and replaced the switch tonight. After I did that it still didn't start and that's when I started getting f'ing nuts. Checked everything again. Damn near had an aneurism.

Then, when I put a safety pin (attached to my DVM lead) in the wire and got in to check for "cranking voltage", the car immediately started up.

Wow.

At that point I didn't really look to see what the voltage was because I was in SHOCK that the car was running for the first time in like three months. I got out (leaving it running) and as I attempted to remove the safety pin from the wire and it started dyin out. So I moved it around and of course it came right back to life.

Moving the wire around tells me that the ICM harness wire(s)/female prongs in the plug must be bad.

Good idea to soak em in baking soda and water and try to get em cleaned up a little better?? Of course I'm going to first see if I got some bent/bad connectors.

But this has got to be my problem that's been driving me (and some of your guys as well I'm sure) absolutely NUTS.

Can I buy a new harness for the ICM alone if I wanted to? I'm sure it's out there.

Thanks for everyones input and help. Due diligence and patience definitely pays off and sometimes that's what it's going to take for people to stay behind the older LT1's.

I'm there!
-Ivan

So it's the harness that plugs into the actual ICM that is bad. I

If the wire has been damaged as a result of battery acid fumes, baking soda will remove the copper sulfate. However, if the wire strands were eaten through by the corrosion, removing the corrosion isn't going to cure the physical damage.

Shoebox has the part number for the ICM harness pigtail on his parts # listing.

You can get a new one here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/IGNIT...Q5fAccessories

I've bought from both them (Auto Wiring Solutions) and EFI Connection. Both are great sellers, and they have a lot of LT1 and LS1 connectors, way cheaper than the dealer.

Paid for...thanks for the link.

Yeah I just cleaned the crap out of it with my toothbrush...now I need a new one. Whatever.

But I did notice the female ends were kinds opened up really wide, so I took a small pick and tightened em up.

I still need the pigtail because I broke the retaining clip off it from taking it off too many times too rough..lol.

Just got back from a quick shakedown cruise. Not an issue at all.

I forgot what 135mph felt like.

Wicked awesome. Thanks for the direction and encouragement men.

Take care and the weekend is officially starting right now for me. Calling in tomorrow.

Those codes sure point to the opti, or the harness between the opti and PCM.
