fitting 1.6rr and valve coverswith alternator?
How do I put 1.6rr and valve covers to fit with or without moving alternator?? My mechanic said that I have to move the alternator? do I? What do I need to make this set up work?
There are several covers that will work with 1.6 and the alternator does not have to be moved. The covers can be clearanced (ground or cut) to allow them to work behind the alternator. I personally have and like the GMPP 12497978.
do a search for "valve covers"
you'll find a picture that has the tall Proform polished aluminum covers and ground alternator ear and back.
I went with http://www.salleechevrolet.com/Profo...ve_covers.html
part #141-132
GM 12497985
and ground alternator same way

Some 1.6 rrs will fit under the stock covers without any modification. Others, like the CC Pro Magnums will fit will fit with a little modification of the inside of the cover. LT4 valve covers will fit without modification. None of these requires moving the alternator.
Picked up a set of valve covers for $10 at a swap meet, and used them. I swapped in the 1.6s amd found the covers wouldn't clear the alt. What to do?
Good old hammer, little custom fitting, looks perfect. The only movement of the alt. I had to do was to take it out to swap the covers, then just put it back.
