first start of new engine

Well I was terrified to fire it up for the first time. Started right up!.....then died three seconds later. It will keep firing right up but only runs a few seconds. After it dies you can hear a lot of clicking from the fuse box under the hood.

Here's what I did. Deleted the egr, air and AC. Egr solenoid is plugged in, air and AC are not.

I have a fuel pressure gauge kit on the fuel rails but it leaks and my pressure stays low. but it ran before like that.

What can I check? I also have the valve covers off, would the rockers being adjusted wrong keep it from running?

How high should oil pressure be on new engine?

Re: first start of new engine

Did you install the GM white spring in the oil pump, or leave stock? Alot of 4th gen factory clusters will read pretty low once warm. The white spring bumped mine up 10 psi warm, without it, I'd probably have expected 12-15 at warm idle on the factory guage.

Stock pump, not sure if the pressure sensor is bad cuz it was reading 60 the whole time.

how long did you let it run? I would expect it to drop some at idle after warm. Does is fluctuate any? What weight oil you running?

I wasn't in the car while it was running, just checked gauges a few times. It is 5w30. It definitely ran long enough to warm up, I'm at work so I will be looking at it when I get home in the morning.

VERY common that the pressure sender takes a bump on install when not being very careful to make sure it doesn't. It may have been damaged on install

I will check it out. I know the outer plastic of the sensor pulled off and I put it back on. It probably is bad.

Re: first start of new engine

Sounds likely, I bumped mine during my 6 speed swap. It happens.

Re: first start of new engine

Here's a video of car running. sound is not that great.

Lt1 355 first start - YouTube

fuel pressure is only at like 32psi.(not sure of problem) I can hear rockers clicking so im going to have to take the covers off and adjust them. it took about ten minutes of running for them to start making noise. is that normal? and another issue.....I just rebuilt my 4l60e and I have no forward gears at all but reverse works.

is that the pressure with vacuum line to fpr off?(at idle) When is the last time you changed fuel filter) Did you get your oil pressure figured out?(new sender or mechanical guage). I know you were not overly confident when you set lash so probably would be a good idea to go through them.. I know very little about the automatics but is your linkage allowing it to engage proper?
