I went through this a while back, trying to locate a build# for my car. I e-mailed back and forth with people from SLP & ASC. SLP stated they colud not locate my VIN# and to try ASC, b/c all I did was enter my VIN#, they did not know what year my car was. Of course ASC replied saying, "we did not start the WS6 until 98", so that ruled out ASC for 96 and 97. I wrote back to SLP and said that mine was a 97' and they replied " some early 96's were done by SLP, but then the rest and the 97's were done in house by GM" This is what I was told.

Trust me I've been through the fiasco with the '97 WS6s already... here's the answer directly from the GM of SLP Canada... we did the conversions but did not keep track of cars in 1997.

That's why there's TONS of mysinformation about the 97 model year. Build order will sadly never be found.

Yup, we pretty much got the same answer.

ok i have a 99 30 th anniversary trans am and i know for sure ASC
did the work to it. and i was pretty sure ASC didnt take over the WS6's till 99. and i also believe that the firehawks were rated at 310 or 315 horsepower. it should say on the badge by the console and have a sticker on the hood. just my two cents. hawks arent anything to speacial in the power range. its not rare to see stock ws6's and ss's beat them.
