What Is wrong!!! Blew Fire out of.....

Ok... Just got it all back together after the cam install and long tubes...

My car hasnt been started since last september... (bad starter)

Got everthing hooked it it was rolling over acting like it wanted to start I could hear the open long tubes woofing...

I didnt have the cold Air hooked up and buddie said It blew a fireball out of the maf..

Now I tried starting it like 6 times and gave up for the night..

Why didnt it fire? If it got a couple fireballs it seems like it was getting gas..

Could it be When I put the opti in it wasnt lined up (the Key) and It was sparking on the wrong cylinders?

I heard alotta woofing sounds like it was igniting gas but at the wrong time.. I didnt have the vac hose from manifold that goes inside the firewall hooked up at first and he said it blew a fireball out of there too..

Before I pull the waterpump and opti could it be something else?

I'd getting the rest of the sensors plugged in and double check that the plugs wires go to the correct plugs.

Cam indexed wrong, opti on wrong or plug wires routed wrong. Check 'em.

Also make sure your valves are not set too tight.

When I slid my cam in.. I put my finger over the spark plug hole And turned the crank untill Cylinder #1 started to pressurize... The dot was on the top.. and I lined the other dot up directally above it... the dots looked like this : << (right above one another)

Now when I put the opti on to the drive Gear it slid right one once But I took it off.. the Second time it went on rather hard and I just tightened It down compeltly on with the rachet....

(someone said this has to be alinined with the cylinder thats sopposed to Fire)

Im almost positve all the wires are on correctally.. But it sounds like there not sparking at the right time.. This could be do to the opti on wrong too though...

What do you think? how far Do I have to go back?

Did you look for the index on the opti splined drive to line it up? You should never have to (and never should) pull the opti on with the bolts.

Man, its scares me when I read stuff like this. The Opti only needs to be indexed correctly to the cam, via the splined shaft. You have nothing else to worry about. Doesn't matter where the cam is in the rotation cycle.

NEVER force parts together....

Go back and take it apart, making sure you have the splines indexed correctly. I don't know how many of these threads I have responded to where people have sworn up and down they put it back together correctly, only to find they screwed up indexing the splines.

You might have it on right, but since you had to force it together, you need to check.

the valves where loose enough to still spin the pushrods at the bottom of its travel after the preload... Would this Create a fireball? Well I already got the radiator and water pump out...

Anyone else think its a valve before I pull the harmonic balancer?
