Finished LT install, smoking a bit

Here's the scoop. I finished my Pacesetter LT install and now if i leave it idle during start up there is smoke coming up. I can't really tell if its just the paint burning or if its wire burning. I can't see any wires trapped by the LTs. I didn't get the coated LTs (Stupid me, didn't check the box on summit,) I will have to reorder some in winter and sell these ones :P. But for now I want to have some fun with my car. Anybody any ideas whats causing the smoke?

I don't run it for too long because the headers are still open until tomorrow when I can have the Y-Pipe put on and don't want to **** the neighbours off. On that note, is it safe to drive open headers about 10 miles to the shop I have work done on?

Painted headers smoke a lot when you first fire them up. I remember when i first started up my fresh engine with new headers on my old thirdgen it smoked for a while, scared me at first. You should be fine.

The only danger driving with open headers is to your ears heh It will also run a bit rich because the o2s will be so close to fresh air that it'll give an innacurate reading to the computer. But for 10 miles, i think you'll be fine.

You'll be alright driving a short distance with open headers. I drove mine ~10 miles to the exhaust shop with open headers. It'll shake the crap out of your car though. Make sure you tighten down those bolts as soon as you get it back home. Mine backed out pretty decently.

good maybe that will motivate me to get these heavy azz doors off and put the new hinges on. But thats cool, thanks for the help. I idled my car for about 5 minutes in the garage and it's still smoking. I'll wait until tomorrow morning when people are at work and idle it more.

Even my coated headers smoked for a good 15 minutes upon initial startup. You are just burning off all the junk that accumulated on the headers during the shipping process and the installation.
