Finished cc306 swap! (pics & vids & a couple ?'s)

Hey guys i just got done with my cam swap this past Sunday night and everything...when at first when i cranked the car up the rocker were really really loud. I adjusted them using Shoebox's #1 and #6 TDC method..not sure it they are too tight though. I tightened them down untill the pushrod stopped spining then tightened it another 1/4 turn...you guys think it might be too much, I can't really tell!

Question #2 about E. waterpump wiring.
I kept blowing ignition fuses cause i just shoved the wire down in there with fuse. So i put it in the A/C / Cruise control fuse and so far it's working fine...I know i need to wire a relay in and was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of a site that shows how to wire it up with a relay...and now for the pics!

Thank God...i'm done, she's running, and fast as hell...and I finally got the tune on her last night and i can tell a pretty good difference now too! A HUGE THANKS to Marcin for going out of his way to help me on several occasions! And i would also like to thank my brother Jonathan for helping me...cause w/o his help i couldn't have done it at all! And my dad helped me too, thanks dad

Here are some pics from over the past week!

And here is the last picture i took tonight right before i put the valve covers back on for the last time!

We'll me and my brother started working on it causually last Monday night and got done Sunday(well skipping Friday). But as usual we ran into a lot of stuff and plus i wanted to take my time and do it right and CLEAN...but anyway i think it was worth it. I'm glad it's over now though!

Here is a little video (The exhaust goes from e-cutout open then closed for a second then e-cutout open again till the end of the video)
I'm gonna post a better video once it gets out of the body shop!

And thanks to Jamey at www.cgfyb.com (come check us out ) for hosting the video!

Here is the video:

I love the sound of the cc306. Always have. However, I am going with the GM847. I am finally almost ready to do my rebuild. Parts are spendy. But after $3000 later and months of down time hopefully I should have my car in the 400HP range.

When you get the car back defiantly get some more video footage of it. I will be doing the same with mine. However there is quite a bit of snow on the ground here so I wont actually put the engine in until March or so.

Did you replace the cam bearings as well when you did the swap, or just the cam itself?

Re: Finished cc306 swap! (pics & vids & a couple ?'s)

I just changed the cam no bearings...they really didn't look all that bad anyways...i just did this swap to hold me over till summer when i can swap a shoel new motor in

I'll post some more video around Friday and i'll post a video of me racing my brother Z28 and Syclone to see how i hold up...before the cam me and the syclone stayed DEAD even from about 40-110 or so...hopefully i'll pull pretty hard him now. What sucks is in a few months it'll be opposite cause his truck will be running low 11's high 10's It's like a war...gotta get fast, hehe!

And all in all i spent about 600 bucks including:
Cam, RR's, Springs, Waterpump, Gaskets, Spark plugs, Electric Waterpump, Oil and filters, and little misc. crap!

Awesome. I just finished mine this Sunday too! How do you like it? Does yours surge under 2000rpm? I got the exact same setup as you except the roller rockers. I have proforms. I got a double roller and electric pump. Wait ti'll you nail the gas, this thing keeps wanting more feels like it never stops pulling.

Nope, what you saw was a Cloyes double roller. When I pulled my stock chain off, I thought it was gonna be a dinky chain but its actually pretty beefy, mine was stretched quite a bit. Put the double roller on and man, almost no slack.

I know..it's like it never stops pulling! Lol i love it, no cam surge (I have a good tune on it) only bad thing is getting it to idle when coming to a stop...it takes a second but i bumped the idle up to 1000 to help with that!

I bought a CM true double roller but had to end up returning it and putting a stock replacement one (from GM) on there b/c i have a '94 with the keyed cam sprocket...that's another thing that held me up!

The one in the pic is the CM double roller though!

Ahh, looks like everyone now a days likes the cloyes. I am going to go with the LT4 myself and keep the stock waterpump setup. The vented swap is only 300 to change if you get all new parts. If you can find an used opti it would drop the price dramatically. And since you have all the other parts it wouldnt be that bad.

Re: Finished cc306 swap! (pics & vids & a couple ?'s)

When adjusting lash you don't want to keep tightenting the rocker until the pushrod stops spinning. You want to keep tightening the rocker until you feel drag against the pushrod. Technically its when you can't move the pushrod up or down anymore, but you can't really find that too accurately considering the lifter design. Once you feel the drag on the pushrod, then adjust it 1/8-1/4 turn. Make sure when finding zero lash and setting proper preload that the lifter is on the cam base circle. I like to do it with the engine off, but alot of people do it with the motor running.

What is the preload that the lifter is on the cam base circle?

I'm guessing mine are too tight since i tightend them down untill the pushrod wouldn't spin then i tigthen them another 1/4 turn..

My friend tightens them untill they are finger tight then another 1/4 turn...is that ok to do?!!
