Finally got my new 383 setup on the dyno

The new setup: Golen 383 shortblock, Lloyd Elloitt LE1 Heads/cam, mail order tune by Bryan Herter (PCMforless).

1st run - dyno operator screwed up, and I didn't get a read.
2nd run - 381.8 RWHP, 406.2 ft lb RWT
3rd run - 370.2 RWHP, 431.5 ft lb RWT

I think the power may be down a bit on #3 because the engine was probably getting hot.

My hat is off to Chad Golen for a bullet proof stroker block and his helpful advice. Same to Lloyd Elloitt for his terrific LE1 Heads/cam and all his patience and help. And this is only a LE1 ! I can't imagine how a LE2 or LE3 would run. And finally to Bryan Herter for a great mail order tune. The A/F ratio runs a flat 12.5 at WOT, so I'm sure that there's a little more there if I get Bryan to lean it out a little.

Also thanks to Bret Bauer for his great cam design (on the second run the torque curve flattened out at about 3200 RPM and stayed there til 6200 when I shut it off) and his break in process (...beat on it).

Needless to say the car absolutely flies. Next...goodbye Mr. 10-Bolt.

What made you put LE1 heads on a 383?.

Not everyone wants the biggest and baddest. I ran a hotcam on a 383, still did 12.084 at 113 in the 1/4

But I have bret's cam sitting to me right now, now he has to just get his bum up here to dial the sucker in

Re: Finally got my new 383 setup on the dyno

This started out as a budget build (stroker short block is the same price as a 355), it's a convertible, I don't want to put in a 6 point rollbar, so it will see very limited track use. They were already kicking me out when I just had the Hot Cam because I was running 13.0, so I figured there was no point in getting too radical.

I'm real happy with how the car performs, it has great street manners, a nice choppy idle, and with the incredible torque of the stroker motor, it will keep up with most others on the street.

However, if I had to do it over, I would seriously think about doing the LE2.

Great HP. LE1 should be good and smooth and reliable. How many miles did you have on the new setup when you dynoed?

Yeah, now I have the extra shortblock from the old motor... The engine now has 650 miles on it.

Cool. I didn't think you could dyno until at least 2000 miles? I guess I'll dyno mine at 650 miles.

I am glad you are happy with the way it runs.

Pretty good HP #'s and GREAT TQ #'s.

I am sure that cam (low 220's on duration) has a slight rumble at idle and is has real good street manors. It probably "feels like" it has alot more power than the dyno shows with that kinda TQ curve.

That car will run better than you think...people get way to hung up on "hp".

If "hp" is all that counted....then how can my Lightning that weighs 4700 lbs race weight yet make I guess 430 rwhp run what it does? Plug that into your little calcs...

You got it, Lloyd . I have sure gotten a lot of complements on the choppy idle and when I nail it it 1st gear, front end really jumps and the car just seems to leap forward. I got rid of my old Nitto DR's and put on a couple MT ET DR's and that really helped, no more slippin' and slidin'.

Thanks again for a great job, and all the other help.

Probably somthing to do w/ a eaton blower, and some massive torque... oh and a Automatic as well..
