Talking FINALLY BROKE INTO THE 12s!!

I finally did it!! After a year of BS and trouble getting to the track, I finally did it. On saturday the 9th I went up to US41 with a bunch of guys from Thirdgen.org for there track rental of US41 drag strip. It was SOOO hot that day (well over 90 degrees most of the day) that I didnt think anyone was gonna run good at all. But there were a few of us that ran well, I ran 13.0s most of the day then took an hour to cool down and we back for a 12.84@109.99 with a 2.02 60 foot time. I wasnt beating on the car off the line cause I was 3 hours away from home and I drove the car up there. I think I can get alittle quicker with more practice getting it off the line (Im still a novic at racing a stick). I was pretty happy with the way the car ran sence Im still running 3.23 gears in the stock rear sence the car was an auto. And I was only coming off the line at 3,000rpm. Also ProstockJohn from LS1tech.com showed up with his blown LS1 formula and knocked down mid to high 9s all day long posting his best ever E/T of 9.61@144!! I just figured Id share my good news with you all. Thanks for listening to my rambleing.

Re: FINALLY BROKE INTO THE 12s!!

This give me hope. I ran a 13.1 the other day and destroyed a stock clutch. Hopefully everything will be back together this weekend.

Nice job.

(I have seen the 306 on stock heads go 12.3 with a really good 60', then he turned around and ran a 10.9 on spray)

The trap speed suggests that low 12's are there.

It's the driver / 60ft and weather that is lame.

Re: FINALLY BROKE INTO THE 12s!!

I never knew that there were any M6's that came with 3.23's. That true? Thought M6 was an automatic 3.42 rear. Nice time though. Slap a set of drag radials or ET streets on in the fall, hope the rear holds together, and your looking at low 12's.

If you read the post you will see that it was originally an auto car and hence
the 3.23s.

Re: FINALLY BROKE INTO THE 12s!!

Yea, my car was an auto. But I swapped it to a T56 and havent felt like waisting money on the 10 bolt, so I decided to see how fast I can go on 3.23s till the rear blows up. Ive already broke an axel and 2 yolks on drag radials. Yes its part driver error and weather, but this car is the first stick car Ive ever owned so Im still learning how to lauch it at the track sence I dont get much time to go up there. Ive turned 111.5mph on a cooler day with a 2.11 60 foot but I spun really bad going into 2nd gear so my E/T fell off to 13.06. Thanks for the posts guys. And yes 13s with a 306 is lame, but not everyone slaps a cam in there car and runs low 12s.

Re: FINALLY BROKE INTO THE 12s!!

I don't think its lame. 109 mph is good for plentys more. If I had a 1.6 60' instead of a 2.0 I would be sitting pretty, but I destroyed the last clutch on street tires with 2.0s, so the rear is soon to come.

100F evenings don't help either.

NIIIIICCCCCEE.
Put the auto back in with some 3.73 gears and DR's a 1.7 60' is in your future.
Will take a GOOD clutch and a lot of experience to launch a stick without either spinning or bogging and did I mention clutch.

Re: FINALLY BROKE INTO THE 12s!!

Yeah, I know there is alot more E/T left in my car. Im saving up to buy a 9inch so I can launch it hard and get some good 60 foots. I dont even want to look at an auto trans ever again, especially a 4L60e. Im gonna stick with my T56 sence my friend at RPM Transmissions just fully rebuild it and I already have a SPEC stage 4 clutch. So Im set in that department. I just need to work on my 60 foots and go from there. I need to get new stiffer valve springs and new lifters too cause I think Im hearing some valve float at the end of the track. Right now as long at I dont pick up any more MPH Ill be fine. But Im going threw the traps at 6300-6500rpm in 3rd gear so Im perfect on that. I need to do the math to see what gear Id need to run out 4th gear like that. Thanks again for all the replys.

4.30 or a 4.56 will get it done,and if ya didn't plan on going over 550-600 RWHP I would get a 12 bolt.(it's a little quicker-not much but a little)
The STOCK lifters WILL take ya where you are going. Springs @130 seat and 350 nose after break in will work,Springs will generally loose 15-25lb's after a few heat cycles.SO a spring with an advertised 145-150lb's seat and 350 nose at your installed height will get it done.Ya will loose less with more spring than less and valve bounce issues.

Re: FINALLY BROKE INTO THE 12s!!

Wow, nice time! I am anxious to get my car to the track. I got the motor done in October of last year, and the first time at the track, I broke my tranny mount, so I didn't get a run in.

I would like to know what my car is capable of. If a cam only car is going mid 12's, I'm hoping for something a little better. We'll see I guess.

Again, great times. Congrats!

I didn't see that he has head work done also. If he were to port the heads, he should pick up quite a bit.
