Thats the "impression" of the retainer. It goes about a 1/4" deep, on both the head and piston. The outer parts of the retainer actually chipped off, and are probably embedded into the piston and head now.

I'm not using anything from this shortblock, I bought a forged 383 to put in it's place.

However, I may sell the block, and crank if it's still good. How much would a 4bolt main block be worth?
