few LT1 questions
What were the gear choices in the rear diff for a 93 LT1 I have one I dont want to pull the rear cover. It will do almost 90 in 2nd gear (thats 2nd gear in the 4 speed Auto) Any guesses as to what gear ratio I have?
You don't have to guess. Find the "build tag" with the RPO codes on it - usually on the end drivers door. Look for:
GU2 = 2.73 rear axle
GU5 = 3.23 rear axle
My calculator says an A4 in 2nd gear @ 90MPH:
2.73 = 5,285RPM
3.23 = 6,251RPM
Since that's above redline with 3.23's.... you would be at 83-84MPH at 5,800RPM.

The WORST I have ever gotten on a tank was about 17.5mpg...normally I'm in the 20-22 range with city/hwy combo driving...if I drive nice I'll get 22+...on the hwy I get about 27-29mpg depending on how fast I drive...
OK Dam it LOL I have 2.73 gears. On older Camaros in order to change to anything 3.42 or better I would need to change the carrier or buy a shim to move the ring gear out. Is this still true for the new Camaros? If that is the case 3.23 is the best I can do with my exsiting gears? Is it worth changing to the 3.23 or should I spring for the new carrier and do 3.73? I still am going to use it as a daily driver I would be doing mild bolt on mods and a set of 1.6 RR. i would still like to get 20 MPG at worst what do you guys think?
