A few general questions??

Ok, my mechanic scanned my car and he said the problem is the front passenger o2 sensor. Well, I took the sensor out today, and it was jet black full of soot/carbon. I'm guessing this will make it bad? I found the purple wire disconnected from the homemade wire extention, but don't know if it was out the whole time, or fell out while taking the sensor out. Also, I just got my tuned computer in today from Ion, and had him eliminate the rear o2's. I already have an o2 sim installed that I bought off ebay. Is there a problem with keeping the sensor installed with the new computer deleting them anyway? Well, I took my car on a 10 mile trip just now also, and no check engine light came on, and no real ruff riding or hesitation. I did notice a slight pop here and there during deceleration which sounded like under the car or hood, not the back. Would that indicate an exhaust leak? Thanks.

Re: A few general questions??

Sounds like the wire got disconnected, the car saw this and defaulted to a stage of thinking it was lean, thus enrichening the mixture, and ran rich enough to coat your O2 sensor in soot. Replacing it would be a good idea

Also, for your extension, do NOT extend the wire from the O2 sensor to the connector. If you need to extend the wire, extend the harness side to the connector.
