On the fence about EVANS coolant

I was thinking about running this stuff on my new motor build. I have done some searches and read about it raising up the temp slightly. I will be running a 160 thermo, with Mezeire HD.

I had my stock radiator cleaned up by a good radiator shop next to me, so I figured now is the best time to do it I am going to. (they took the plastic tanks off and cleaned each radiator core out)

I noticed most run the stock radiator with no problems. Why is it that on evans website, they stress using a different radiator so much? I am liking the fact that the evans is better at thermal transfer, to help soak up the heat. I will run the recommended 7psi cap if I do use it.

The car is going to be run on weekends on street/strip in Houston.

So any opinions?

I too wanted to use Evans but after digging a little deeper I discovered it's merely Propylene Glycol. The same as No-tox. so I asked them in an email what's the big difference between their's at $25 to $35 a gallon and the much cheaper Prestone product.

Alas, I never got a reply. We'll leave it there for everyone to make up their own mind. I already made up mine.

I would just run regular stuff. And a 7 psi cap is way too small.

I'm not going to spend big bucks on fluids for a car that have no real hard facts that they are better.

Yeah I don't like it when people don't respond. I wonder if there is no answer?

I was going to go with the green originally, and will still most likley. I just came across the evans and thought I would check into it here.

Also what is the recommended rad cap PSI? I am going to replace my stock one, but dont have it at my location. Mine is old and wanna make sure to maintain a good seal.

I am going to be much better about coolant maintenance this time around. I ran water sometimes with the old engine, (due to unexpected belching, and air in the system.) and will stay on top of it now that everything is cleaned up. My rad was filthy before cleaning.

IIRC, Isn't it reccomended like 16 PSI for most vehicles?

Our cars have an 18 psi system.

We used to run evans all the time with our 427 ls1 strokers years ago. Darton requires it for their sleeve systems in LS1 cars and will not warranty if you use anything but evans. I hate the stuff though, the only thing it does a little better is guard against cavitation and has a much higher boiling point. Other than that...sooo not worth the money.

Because the Evans coolant is non-aqueous propylene glycol, it has a much higher boiling temperature, and much lower vapor pressure at high temps, compared to the conventional water/ethylene glycol mix. Hence it does not need an 18psi cap to prevent the system from boiling at high temperatures.

I had the same issue with HyperTech folks. Turns out the 'HyperTech'
160* thermostat is nothing more than a MotoRad standard
thermostat re-packaged in a 'HyperTech' box:
http://www.motoradusa.com/

So I emailed HyperTech, asking about it - no response, which
means they know they were caught red-handed

Back to the coolant thing. I'm also in the Houston area, so fully
understand the upcoming heat wave. I used this stuff last summer:
http://www.hyperlube.com/prod_cool.asp

(aka, like WetterWater) and I realized an *instant* reduction in
the engine temp. Stuff works like magic. Royal Purple sells the
same sort of stuff:
