Female plug broken off back of block...what is it?

This plug looking thing broke off the back of my block and I was wondering what it was. It is connected to a 90 degree elbow thing, and the elbow is connected together by bolts to make the angle. It is 3.5 in. tall and about 1.25 in. wide...and its oval at the top and round at the bottom with a beige looking circle thing on the bottom. It is black plastic. Any ideas? Thanks.
JOHN
It's on a 97 engine

Dave, it is on the back of the block. The intake and heads are off, and the block is alone. And the part was on the back of the actual block. I was trying to find it on shoeboxes website, but haven't so far.
