I have had good luck with grey silicone, the right stuff works fine too.

I use it in the corners, and I have my pan off once a year or more for inspection and reuse the gasket many times.

The Gm stuff, black RTV and the grey sealer are all the same chemistry....high temperature acid cured silicone rubber. They don't harden, ever.

Using gasket sealer #2 or whatever Permatex calls it now is a mistake, it does harden and is only useful to stick paper gaskets in place. Black RTV at the points where the pan hits the rear seal and the front cover is all you'll ever need.....
