Fel-Pro Gasket Kit -LT1
Re: Fel-Pro Gasket Kit -LT1
Well the more and more I look into it, someone just bought these heads to make work with the piston set up, instead of vise versa. It says on the AFR website max flat mill is .006" per CC with a maximum of 60cc.
Re: Fel-Pro Gasket Kit -LT1
Ok, the original owner of this engine states he is 100% certain that the head gaskets in the engine are cometic MLS 0.030. ThEy have NO stampings or part numbers on them, making it hard to know forsure. I am now looking for a set of 0.030 non MLS head gaskets. Is there such a thing?? Builder believes it will seal up better then an MLS gasket.
Thanks,
Greg

Re: Fel-Pro Gasket Kit -LT1
MLS is widely used. There is a requirement for the quality of the finish of the head and block surfaces. Is that what your engine builder is concerned about?
Re: Fel-Pro Gasket Kit -LT1
Yes because my heads are slightly pitted from running dexcool. Do to the heads already being milled down to 60cc which is what AFR states is the maximum amount that can be flat milled I don't want to take anymore off the heads. I know I have room because the pistons are in the cyclinder .030. Maybe if I don't have an option with a quality non MLS gasket I will have to mill the heads and intake. Any suggestions??
Re: Fel-Pro Gasket Kit -LT1
Thanks. Showing 0.026" compressed thickness.
Re: Fel-Pro Gasket Kit -LT1
Haha I am dumb founded. I feel like I might take a chance and get some cometic MLS 0.030" 4.040" bore to get the seal closer to the cylinder. I don't know. Here is a picture of the head. Maybe it's not bad? I don't know!
Re: Fel-Pro Gasket Kit -LT1
Victor Reinz (aka Mr gasket) # 5898 it is .026 compressed. For Gen 2 LT1
Many Impala guys ran it when they couldn't get the factory GM head gasket for the iron head motors
