Faulty Camshaft?

Im doing my head install today and pulled out the ZZ-9 camshaft that i had just put in nearly 5k ago. The oil has been changed every 1,000 miles since then. Well anyway it looks as though every lobe has flaked/ground off. All of the lifters appear rather smooth, but the camshaft lobes have tracks as wide as the rollers on the lifters where it appears the cam has flaked apart. Im wondering if any of you know the cause of this?? Could it be the rockers too tight or is it a faulty cam??? (by the way when installed i did use moly grease so it shouldn't have happened on install/startup).

Thanks for any help you can provide.
