Fat oil leak on driver's side...

Where can I leak oil from? It gets all over the driver's side undercarriage, on the oil filter, the fuel lines, the tranny and slave cylinder etc. etc. a little on the cat, and more in that general area. I did have a torn valve cover gasket that was getting droplets of oil the driver's side header but I fixed that and cleaned the headers.

Here is the problem: after coming to a stop from a freeway drive, my car emits smoke from the driver's side seam between the hood and the fender. It is not coming from the header as I have cleaned it many times, so it must be from the cat. When I look at the driver's side cat, I see light oil stains on it so I know it is dropping from somewhere in that area around the oil filter onto the cat and burning and making my car look like a bucket haha. Plus the smoke stinks I hate that smell. What could be leaking, it's pretty fat but I can't pinpoint the origin. There is some road grime on the bottom of the oil pan too, not sure if it's oil or grime. Also, the oil fittings for the blower all have teflon tape so I'm pretty sure they are not leaking.

Anybody? The oil gets all over the underside of the car, and it's major amounts. I need to fix this.

Oil leaks definitely stink....I would put the car on a lift and clean what you can with brake clean, its good stuff that will evaporate...get everything as clean as you can and then watch for the leak to start again...there is also an engine oil dye that you can pour in the crank case..it works off of a black light system...shine the black light under the car, and the treated oil glows and leaks are pretty easy to trace like the black light posters of the 1970s and 80s. i know of a few shops that use the system..its pretty cool...good luck...

where do u get that black light stuff. That sounds really cool, and i think it could help me pin point my oil leak. I have oil all over underneath the car too, mine is a few droplets a night on the cardboard in the garage. I am sick of it and want it fixed.

You're not supposed to use tape on the oil fittings. Remove the tape and reinstall the oil lines, that may help. If not, you might want to check your rear main seal.

Uhhh I doubt that buddy. You are telling me that taking sealant off the threads with help a leak??? I highly doubt that. My rear main seal does not leak. It could be the intake manifold. I am going to check.

I second checking the intake. I have done the Valve covers, Front cover and intake in the last couple of months and the intake was the one making smoke. Cool the engine off and get your fingers under the rear of the intake (especially under the EGR mounting location). If you get oily fingers, you have a winner

Yeah, that's what I'm telling you. And I quote (from the Vortech installation manual, page 9, section F)

"Reassemble the mounting fitting and oil sender using engine oil on the pipe threads. Teflon tape, paste or other sealant is not recommended as it might loosen and cause blockage of the oil feed orafice, resulting in supercharger failure."

Buddy

Mine oil leak sounds exactly like yours.I had the hardest time tracing it.I bought the engine dye at Napa and then had to use a black light.Turns out mine was the intake.Theirs also an oil sending unit on the drivers side behind the intake if i'm not mistaking.Chances of it leaking are slim but it's worth checking.
Good luck,
JE

I will check the fittings and the intake tomorrow. I'm almost 100% it is not the fittings for the blower feed. In fact, they used to leak until I put sealant on them.

Not sure if you have an oil cooler or not but I had a bad leak at one time from oil filter area, it was coming from the "O" ring seal between the oil cooler and block.
