Fastest CAM only, and Custom cam grinders...

UH no I'm NOT!!!!!
you SAID you didn't want to race it all the time.....so a huge custom grind isn't going to do any better than something off the shelf b/c
1. you don't have a race car
I hate when people ask for advice then have smart *** comments...just from asking something without stating your goals etc. like people have asked then beat down every idea someone puts out IT APPEARS THAT YOU SHOULD KNOW THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION YOU ASKED....SINCE NOONE ELSES OPINION MATTERS

get ready for a crap load of lift for a really well running custom cam car. be careful of that lift tho and be sure this custom cam supplier gives you a ton of information about setting up the correct valve geometry, and gives you a flawless set of matching parts.

just realize that if you want a "fast" cam-only car you're going to have make some compromises, IE steep gearing, big convertor (if auto), driveability, etc.
my only problem with custom grind cams is that alot of the grinders out there are VERY hush hush about letting out specs, which can cause some issues with setting up the car. they might be able to tell you what you'll want to setup you car around their cam but that's only one man's opinion.
honestly many off-the-shelve cams can fit your needs custom grinds mostly fill up the gaps left by these cams, but the issue is you have to have 100% faith in your cam grinder to know whether he completely understands your goals and desires. the nice thing about the "cookie cutter cams" is you'll be knowing exactly what you're getting into when you buy one since plenty of people have experience with these cams. also you can get plenty of opinions on how to setup your car around this cam.
honestly 1 of the off-the-shelf cams comes to mind when I think of your scenario, GM847. this cam is a great performer, a friend of mine locally has one in his 95 Formula, through a six speed with stock heads, stock 1.5 stamped rockers, stock catback(with a cutout), stock intake, and conservative tune he made 360/360 on his 140k+ motor

joeya I believe your question is if not Joe O then who? Contact Geoff Skinner at Thunderracing or Alan Futral at Futral Motorsports both can hook you up with a stockhead cam only combo. I have a stockhead cam only lt1 street car with a hydralic roller Joe o cam and i ran 11.15 119.86. My car still drives on the street and has 3.73 gears/4l60e with lockup converter. good luck Frank95z

look into the comp xfi grinds if you want a sort of custom-shelf cam. those cams are doing well, and are making better power curves then other comp cams.
i ran a 503 and it was awesome..im still havin issues with my 383, so im considering going cam only 350 again...ill get another custom grind for my setup. bret bauer is my grinder of choice.

the heads were freshened up some though, new larger valves and such, but no major work at all, considering he made this power on a conservative tune with stock rockers and stock catback there's plenty of room for improvement

Yes, in fact some people are runing high 11's with just bolt ons. It takes a stalled auto, some steep gears and lots of weight reduction in most cases. My car is full weight but if i had some gears it would be a high 11 sec cam only car.

well lets talk here, im trying to figure out what i am going to do here for my project
my mods are as follows 10" 2800 stall coan converter, beefed tranny, supreme shift, motive 373 gears,3 inch catback with a flowmaster muffler, pcmforless tuned, slp cold air intake,tb bypassed, better flowing intake elbow, air foil, poly trans mount.
275/40/17 Nitto NT555R extreme drags in rear
i dont think i have the money for the bottom end. so N20 is out of the question until i have the bottom end built to handle it. I know i need long tubes and suspension work but besides that what do i need to run 11s?

there is your goal to shoot for if you want the fastest cam only car. As far as I know Frank has it.
