Question Fans won't work, what could be the problem?

I have heard a lot of people say that the relays for the fans on the LT1 cars tend to go bad once in a while. I'm kind hoping this is the problem since relays are cheap and aneasy fix, How many relays are their and where are they located under the hood? Also what procedure would I take in order to check to see if these relays are working? Last thing, if the relays are good then what other problems should I look for?

Thanks

By chance is your F-Body a 93? If so, you are not alone! A lot of LT1s experience what you are describing, mine included. The fans don't seem to turn on when they are supposed to and the car gets VERY hot! I've been searching for the fix for a long time (about two years) and still haven't found it. I went ahead and wired in a switch for my fans so I don't have to worry as much about it. As for the relays, they are in the fuse box next to your air intake assembly by the drivers side fender. I was lucky, I had two relays from a previous project and I used those, but the fans still didn't want to work right. It's worth a shot though, yours may be different. Good luck!

some models have a 2 relay setup and some have a 3 relay set up just depends on which one you have but you might want to check your coolant level and make sure you have all the air out od the system , also you might try your ect IMO thats usually what i find with fans not working correctly. You should have 2 of the ect's the one in the waterpump is the one that would affect your fans the other is in the drivers side head it is the one that operates the temperature gauge in the car. Your primary fan should come on at 229 degreees your secondary fan should come on at 235. If it was me ide prolly try the ect first. Good luck to you

I jus thought of something, you see I have a gutted cat and my air pump never shuts off and it kept on blowing fuses. Then the fuses stopped blowing but that was because the connector to the air pump melted and now my fans won't work. I remember reading on another board the fans get their power through this connector, is this true?

I went through the same **** with my 94 z28. Even had a dealer check it out, and they couldnt figure it out. So I just wired low/high together, and ran it to an ignition source. Of course that was then. I'll never do that again.

On my 97Z they had a recall which the secondary airpump shorted which caused you to pop the fuse and the fans were on the same circut.
