fan question
Yea I don't want to use a switch by itself. Maybe as a backup, but I don't see a need to not just let the computer do it in most cases. Especially on this car, I have enough going on. I guess I just don't have a clear understanding of how the pins are set up, but it seems logical to me that if I have one fan it will just turn on at 226*, but maybe Hotwire can explain further or Shoebox or Injuneer can confirm again that the stock configuration will at least work ok.
Also, I am using an OBD II ECM so unless I switch it, little to no reprogramming at this point is ideal.

It should look something like this.
Some people use a two speed single fan on rods. It would be wired like this.

Thanks for all the input guys. It's coming together for me, but I'm going to have to look at what I have in the next couple days to make sure I have it. Shoebox, I had just pulled up the diagram you linked and then I saw that you had linked it. Thanks for that...it paints the picture for me and Hotwire that looks to be what you were saying.
My body harness manual puts it pretty simple, but I would have to either use a temperature switch or manual switch for the relay at my fuse block. So I have to look at the wiring and see first hand how I need to do it then I'll report back with my questions
Hotwire- that's a nice solid original looking car. Are you going to restore it or put an LS1 in it?

Absolutely have to have something fun to look forward to every morning! 35 is getting restored very slowly, all original 50k miles, last time it was inspected was in 1954 in PA.
*EDIT* You could replace one of the knock sensors and get a OBD1 ecm if you wanted to cheaply change the tune and everything on the car.
ok I got it wired up. I had my engine harness reworked by LT1 Wiring a while back and two of the wires were already hooked up so I just had to run a wire to the fan, battery and ground it. It turns on at right about 200* according to my gauge so I'm not quite sure about that, but at the moment it seems to work. I'll just have to get to the point soon where I can really drive it to see what temp it wants to run at.
By the way LT1 Wiring did a good job I think, but trying to get a hold of them(him) is next to impossible. I sent my computer back once to switch from MAF to speed density and he says any programming after he re works the harness is free so that was great except it took me over a month to get the computer back. After many failed attempts at calling I got a hold of him and he claimed he didn't have my contact info. well he must have lost the nicely printed sheet I left for him in the box I sent in. Long story short, next time I will feel more comfortable going through the harness on my own and I may consider a OBD I ecu for this car if I come across something else I need programmed.
Hotwire- stock is good, but a hot rod is aweful fun
. I have enjoyed the no rules approach with this car. I don't have to order a part made for the car, I can just try to make things work together and make the car mine. That said my dad had already put in a 283 and 3 speed manual, 10 bolt, Jag seats, etc in the 60's so there wasn't much original left to really restore. Good luck with your car though! It will be a fun one however you decide to build it.
