Fan Mod complete. Who has completed with obd1?

Hey all. Fan mod was completed yesterday by a buddy of mine. It works GREAT. BUT what we had to do to get it to work was insane, and was ALOT harder compared to what everyone else said. I have the following questions:

1) Who here has completed this fan mod with an OBD1 car (93-95 i think)
2) If you did, can you only use the fan mod with the key to the on position?

Bacicly the problem we encountered with obd1 and obd 2 is that the fan relay under the hood is NOT "hot" all the time in obd1, in obd2 it is. So in order to use the directions that everyone has on the web you would need to turn the key to on and then run the fans. We made it work so that you could use the fans without the key in the ignition. Bacicly we made the relay "hot" all the time, and attatched a fuse to it for saftey. Worked out really well. Anyone do this also?

Hate to say this, but you should have done a search. You can usually answer most quetions like this with one. I have done this mod on my car but did it via the computer wires. And yes, the key must be in for the fans to work on mine.

this took me a long time to do also. the key must be in the "on" position for the fans to come on. i actually had to use two diodes because my led's would work perfect with the key "on," but with the key "off" the led's would just come on even when the fans were not on.

Oh come on, you gotta love a challange. Even though everything on gods green earth was against you, it went pretty well.

There is another thread I just replied to that has been talking about this for ages (it seems). Yes, on pre-96 cars, you have to supply always hot power to the relay coils to allow operation with the key off. All this was explained in the other post (and probably others before it). As already suggested, the search can be handy.
