Fan help!

Ok, I've got my car running and I'm working out the bugs. My fan doesn't come on. I'm using a single fan off of something I don't remember. I'm using a painless wiring kit that has 2 wires for the stock fans. 1 is green (on at 226 off at 220 or something like that), and the other is blue (on at 236 off at 231 or something like that also). They are said to be a ground controlled by a relay. Since I'm only running 1 fan I hooked up the green one ONLY. I have it to the negative side of the fan. I hooked up a wire from a constant 12 volt source to the positive side. I DIDN'T hook up the blue wire for the second fan. Anyway, the fan doesn't come on. I took the car up to 240* and shut it down and still no fan. The fan definitly works as I tested it right up to a 12 volt source and regular ground and it fired right up. My question is, is the blue wire (second fan) Connected to the green wire (first fan) and if it's not connected is the circuit open? I also don't have the regular temp sending unit on the side of the block hooked up. But from what I understand that is for the gauge only. My harness I got didn't come with a connector for that one so I figured I didn't need it hooked up. Could this be the problem? I can easily hook up a manual switch but if I got what it needs to wire it up right I would like to do that first. Any help is definitly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Fan help!

What you should do is just run the wires directly to a switch and control it yourself.

Angry Re: Fan help!

more info...
when the car is started w/o the ect connected the fan comes on for short time and very slow, then turns off. if i turn it on with the ect connected it dont come on at all.
a manual swtich is a last resort...

EDIT: I checked out shoebox's site and see that the green wire is for the LOW speed and the blue wire is for HIGH speed. this would make sense for the slow fan when it's first started with the ECT disconnected even though the directions state that it's for different fans. But still baffled at why the fan doesn't come on regularly.
