Failed Smog ... I love it!

HC(PPM)

MAX
15mph: 83
25mph:48

MEAS
15mph:13
25mph:223

My CO% is just barely below passing

It is the HC's that are way high

I passed on everything else.

I am going to change the plugs and wires, I may have a burned wire. Any other advice?

Funny ...they asked me iff I had aftermarket heads...I was like "uhhh I dont think so ...no"

I am a gross polluter !!! YAY!!

I am also going to check my rocker arms ...maybe one is loose.

Could that make it run that dirty?

You shouldn't have failed with your mods. That is a tiny cam and should easily pass emissions. My 305 passed EASILY with a decent tune that kept the temp around 220. If you have tuner cat i can share it with you or make you one.

Hey, how do you get the Mac to pass? They don't have a carb #.

Wow.. Cali. sure is stringent on their testing... I'm just glad for OBD2 testing.. No tailpipe sniffing. But I did get it checked w/ my old cam, and was something like 30x over the legal HC limit.

On the way home from getting it inspected I pulled up next to a hybrid honda insight ~ and that irony kinda made me laugh..

Last summer I failed 4 times before passing with the mods in the sig. I finally got it to pass with 1 gal of denatured alcolhol added to 8 gal of 93 and raising the idle to 1250 rpm. Before the last test I had taken it to a shop and had it put on an exhaust analyzer (with the alcohol) and noticed that at idle ~900 that the HC's went way up. Gave it some throttle to bring the rpm up to 1200 - 1300 caused the RPM to plummet. Went back to the test site with the idle raised and it fast passed with a score lower than the last test when it was stock.

You DO NOT want to be labeled or identified as a gross polluter in CA. Once you are, you are in the database in the CA DMV and are subject to random summons to the state referree. These mom and pop smog shops may be a little tolerant of non-CARB mods, but I can assure you the state official knows what to look for, and the fines are substantial.

Here's a tip: Before you run the actual test (maybe you did this) tied to the state network, have the tech run a pre-test. It might cost you a few bucks, but at least you can be anonymous if it fails miserably, and you get an idea of where you need attention in order to pass. My $0.02.

YUP...mine failed last year too! 10% denatured alcohol and a hard run on the freeway....retest and passed with flying colors.
30ppm at both speeds....

You could try what I used have to do when I had older cars... blow the crap out of it at a stop sign on the way to emissions. It worked really well for me and others that I know. I've seen crap come out of newer cars when they use the passing gear on freeway so it's not limited to older vehicles. You may want to give it a try if you're looking to save money on repairs.
