Hey guys i just had to smog my car at a test only facility and my car failed horribly. its a 94 z28, i got a moroso high flow intake, high flow cat and spintech muffler. my elbow(maf to throttle body thingymagig) is torn pretty bad, could that be a problem? any input will be great.. thx in advance.

 

The tear in your elbow would definately be a starting point, then plugs, wires, etc...

 

what did you fail exactly? and the elbow would def cause a problem

 

Im gunna say the high flow cats are part of the problem.

 

Don't buy the high flow cats argument - I passed with a pair of Random Tech without any problem at all. They're kind of a non-issue from my experience.

But a torn intake elbow will be a significant problem as the vacuum leak will cause higher fuel pressure which causes you to run rich. Did you fail HC or something else?

 

To help pin point the problem what readings did you get from the test? Yes a torn elbow will do something to the test, and dont you fell like the car idle rough.

I would hate to drive my car if the elbow was torn, in fact, i probably wouldnt until i fixed it. Who knows what kind of **** your sucking up from the engine compartment.
