Failed Inspection (Emissions) - Need Help
Failed Inspection (Emissions) - Need Help
I had my car inspected this morning and I failed for two reasons; one of my windshield wiper blands was worn 1" (
) and also the computer scan came up with "Catalyst: NOT READY". I looked back at my previous inspection results and every year my print out has said that, but this guy said it's a problem. He said the car hasn't warmed up enough to get a reading, but I had already driven the car on the highway and got it up to operating temp. I know it's related to the catalytic converters, but both mine are functioning properly and I do have O2 sims. Is this a problem, what should I do?
It's not throwing any codes so I don't see how he can fail me for this.

Re: Failed Inspection (Emissions) - Need Help
Not sure what state requirements TX falls under, but there are only so many components/sensors that can read "not ready" before you are failed. I believe here in VA it's not more than three. You can do a search to find out what your e-check laws are like. Are there any other components that read, "not ready"? Have you disconnected the battery lately?
I've heard two sides of the story about using 02 sims and how some have trouble with the "not ready" reading or others who claim they haven't had any problems.

Re: Failed Inspection (Emissions) - Need Help
I completely forgot that I replaced my battery last weekend so I did just reset my computer not too long ago. Nearly all my driving has been highway so I doubt I completed enough "driving cycles".
Here's some good information:

Looks like 2 "Not Ready" is the max in Texas. I have 15 days to get my car reinspected, so I'll drive it another week and try again. Thanks for the help.
