Angry Failed emissions with hotcam....!

I'm pretty sure my problem is that my o2 sensors don't read. I went to heated o2's and that still didn't fix it. My last guess is that my car runs extremely cold all the time ever since i got my chip from ed wright. The needle hovers barely above 100 degrees, around 120-135 degrees I guess. Well I have read the engine has to be atleast 140 degrees for the o2's to work so I'm going to have the temp increased, Ed says its at 160, but i think its running colder for some reason. I managed to pass last year by putting ethonol in the gas and it did not work this year. Anyways I got 15 days to bring it back and try again and i was wondering if anyone else had ever had this problem?

When was the last time you looked at your cat converter? That could be it. It's not the hotcam making you fail, it will pass even with stock programming too.

How would reprgramming make your car run at 120-135 degrees? Your thermostat should keep the engine at the correct operating temperature. Programming only affects the temp that the fans turn on at, right?

Well i think the thermostat might be stuck open so im replacing that tonight once i get home. My only other idea is that the actually o2 wires going to the computer have gotten messed up. The cat was replaced last year right before emissions and taken off right after the test and replaced with a straight pipe so the cat is pretty much brand new. If a new thermostat doesn't fix it im going to take it down to a shop and have them figure out if an actually wire is messed up. Thanks for your replys.

So, your temp guage doesn't even register and is below the very first line? The temp guage on my car starts at 160. If it is running that cold then I would think that would probably hurt your chances of passing.

My temp gauge starts at 100 then it has a 210 mark thats straight up and a 260 mark in the red. The needle hovers just barely over 100 and thats as hot as it gets.

Just a guess, but if you got your PCM programmed for your cam, your readouts have probablly been disabled by Ed Wright. (no readouts, no pass). If this is the case you have 2 options.

Have someone else e.g., PCMFORLESS, reprogram and enable readouts, or just get hold of a stock pcm on the cheap and install it for the emissions cops.

Remember, if you swap pcms, you need to drive around for half hour or so, varying your speeds in the around town area to get your PCM up to speed. JMHO.

I'm probably wrong here, since my PCM is OBD11 and the emissions people just plug into the computer.

Can't recall which readouts, but there were 3 or 4 that would not give readings.

When I mentioned it to ED, he suggested putting in my stock PCM.

That's all I knonw.

yeah mines a 93' speed density so theres no readouts...weve got a 96' v6 too thats obd2 and they just plug into the computer and dont even put it on the dyno emission thing.

Do what you have to do to make the car run warmer, that will definitely help.

On OBD2 they dont even use the tailpipe sniffer? If thats the case my rear O2 sims would pass.

you need to get that temp up around the 210 mark that is where gm desinged it to pass the sniffer at i could bet money that is your problem is at

160= performance

210=pass smog
