Failed Emissions because of EGR valve, my headers? ---
Hey guys, well its time for me to re-register my plates and I couldnt pass emissions testing. They just plug into the obdII under the dash and since it had ONE code (EGR 0400 ) they said it FAILED.
I bought a new EGR valve a few months back, but after reading on here, I think its my current exhaust setup causing insufficient backpressure. I am hesitant on replacing it because it may not fix the problem.
Is there a way to trick it into NOT throwing a code and NOT saying "NOT READY" when tested? Thanks guys....I have two weeks to figure this out!!! Then its time for the LE2 install ... thank God for 2 yr plates

I got the same code when I did my long tubes. Madz28 was able to tune it so the EGR would work around the "less backpressure" issue. After that, it passed with flying colors.

Awesome. The only problem is I am about to get a wideband tune after I get my le2 package put in (about a month to go). I would hate to pay $160 for a tune I will erase in a month , damn ... and I only have 2 weeks!!! I thought if I erased the code and drove for about 20 miles, I would pass like I did last year, but the code shown up after 3 miles this time!!! ---

MadZ28 has it set up where he will reflash for $50 after the first time. I guess you need to decide if it is worth it to pass emissions. Ion had my PCM back in about a week.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I originally was going to go with Madz28 for my tune, but was talked into a real wideband tune for $100 more from my mechanic. Damnit ---
Re: Failed Emissions because of EGR valve, my headers? ---
There's a circuit that some people have used to trick the PCM into thinking the EGR is operating. It involves using the EGR vacuum solenoid signal to insert a resistor in the MAP sensor wiring, simulating the change in MAP pressure that the PCM looks for when it does the diagnostic and cycles the EGR valve, while monitoring the change in MAP.
Try a "search"..... someone has posted a link to the circuit in the past.
