factory oil cooler?

factory oil cooler?

94 z28 auto now how do i know if i have a oil cooler? i have two lines coming from where the oil filter mounts up. one lines goes to the radiator and the other to the water pump so does this mean i have a oil cooler? Thanks Jeff

Yes, but just remember they are coolant lines and not oil lines though. Aftermarket oil coolers actually route the OIL through acooler and back to the block.

Yes you do have a factory oil cooler, it is just that the factory cooler routes coolant around the oil as it passes through the oil filter to cool it.

I was just pointing out that an aftermarket oil cooler is better, and trying to explain that the factory cooler doesn't route the oil from the block as an aftermarket does.

alright thats cool - haha thanks for the help -installing a s-trim and they said if you have a factory oil cooler you have to mod somethings for the SC

Do you need a oil cooler? I am running without currently. 95 z28 setup in a s10.

Yeah....you cant use the factory oil cooler for the SC.

No....the factory one is pretty worthless anyway.....I never put mine back on when the 383 went in.

gb95 - how long has your oil cooler been out of the car? you have never had any problems? factory put it there for a reason so i think i might keep mine in. thanks

Ok, was the oil cooler installed as an SLP (SS option) considered an After Market cooler? From your explanation, I would say "yes" since I believe the oil is actually routed through the cooler.

If, as you say, that the A-Market cooler is better, how so?

Just curious, since if the oil is actully routed through the cooler, wouldn't it be necessary to clean the cooler when you change your oil lest any dirt or debris remain in the cooler even after the oil and filter are changed?
