Extreme Duty guys in here ...

Hey guys...installing my LT4 Extreme duty timing chain. I was curious. Is there supposed to be play in the chain. I know the stock one didn't have any. But this one appears to have quite a bit.

thanks...

i believe they are suppose to be pretty loose. I have a extreme duty, but i never tried the stock crank gear. Thunder racing sells an oversided gear to take up the slack and thats what i bought. When i put that on it was nice and tight. I would recommend getting one.

Anyway, the more I look at it...its like a bike chain and any other type of roller. I know they are supposed to have play. Just wondering if its the same for this application.

I was concerned about the slop in mine so I called the guys at Lingenfelter and was told that it wasn't an issue. Still would have felt better if it was tighter.

With the car running, the chain will have slack on one side and be tight on the other. That's just how it works, so yes, there should be a small amount of slack in the chain.

I also got the oversized crank sprocket from TR. Slack

I did not notice much slack when I installed the LT1/LT4 ED timing set. It certainly was tighter than the loose and whimpy oem chain that I removed.
