Exhuast too quiet..suggestions

I've owned my car for about a month now and the quietness of my exhuast is starting to get to me, im used to my cobras off-road set-up. Right now i have SLP 1 3/4 headers, 3" RK sport Hi-flow car and a borla cat-back (the older style before you could adjust the restriction plates). It is just so quiet (practically stock sounding) and i don't understand why. If i ditched the cat all togeather and went with an off-road pipe would it make much of a difference? Replacing the cat-back isn't really an option either cause im not willing to just drop the expensive borla set-up and dish out more money for something else. Please help i need some ideas to make this thing sound mean. Thanks in advance

1 word to answer your problem, cutout. It's not that it's really loud, it RUMBLES! I set off car alarms just crusing through parking lots in first not even giving it gas. That should be loud enough for you. Oh and at WOT, oh my god, no joke, it's orgasmic.

There is a guy on this board name derrick redd, he has a video of him rippin it up in the walmart parking lott with your 94-95 SLP shorty's and the cutout open on a 3" catback. I love that video =)

Only prob with the cutout is that it rapes your low end torque...forget getting up and off the line unless you have something like a stall or gears...

Then don't "just drop" the Borla set up...sell it! You can get enough money from a Borla sale to fund a whole bunch of other new options. I'm pretty sure that the size of the muffler case is what's keeping it quiet. Removing the cats may make it louder but you'll need to redo your dyno tune and you'll also get the smell of exhaust fumes in the car. If you are happy with everything but the sound, then keep your cats.

Mislead?

I uncap my cutout..which sits after my cat...and I hit it off of the
line...small hesitation and then it catches...(and no its not my tires)

I replace the cap so that the exhaust is running back through my series 80...hit it off the line...and I get "there" much quicker than I did with my cutout open...

How am I mislead?

you are mislead because someone told you your *** is a dyno.

I am confident my 350 had a MUCH freer flowing exhuast than you and i gained bottom end.

the manifolds are too much of a restriction for you to be worrying about too little back pressure

I have seen before and afgter dynos of long tubes + true duals vs stock and there was a gain through the whole poweband.

Well sure Trey...with LT's I'm sure there is more of a gain...my initial comment may have been too general which is why everyone is flying off their post about it...

With my application...lack of headers....lack of everyhting....I am losing low end torque.....throw all your numbers at me if you'd like....I believe i know my application better than you do...

a lost low end torque comes from a lack of exhuast backpressure-
and i have less backpressure than you. i gain. why would headers gain and a cutout lose.

I refuse to even debate this any more. its rediculious. Im still not convinced you have the slightest clue what so ever about what you speak so confidently about

Cutout seems to be a pretty good option so the next question is who makes the best one? Which one are you guys using? Are the electronically controlled ones pretty easy to install? I like the idea of being able to just flip a switch or something to open it up but but is it worth the extra money. Thanks again

Two words: Purple Hornies.

If you want loud, and I mean "wait a sec, those AREN'T open headers?" loud, go with those. You'll have to yell over your engine to talk to passengers.

I set off car alarms at an idle roll when I went through parking lots at Purdue.

If you want 'em PM or e-mail me . It was fun for a week or two, but I'm going to a Hooker catback so I don't go deaf and have to learn sign language.

Cutout is definatly the way to go. I have a borla type 'plate' that my father made for me. Its now perfect. Sounds great, doesnt rattle anything sitting lose inside the car, and isnt deafening. The car is very quiet while cruising 50mph and under. 55+ you can hear it, but its not like it was before. Im extremly happy with this.

As far as brands..are there any? I think the majority uses Flowtech, my local perf shop had them in stock. Theyll run about $35, and myself along with quite a few others paid about $40 to have it welded on. You can easily clamp it in tho.

And now for the good part...a few small clips of what it sounds like with the 'plate' on there. I unfortunatly dont have any with out the plate.

BTW, I personally lost no low end TQ. I dynoes the numbers in the sig with the cutout, k&n panel and tb bypass. The car still feels like a beast off the line, and Ill easily hang with my fathers slightly modded ls1 till about 50.
