Which exhaust would you run (On HC car)? Poll.

This winter I am going to be redoing the top end of the car. I will be running a LE1 HL cam from Bret, on LE2 oe LE3 heads.

Right now I have Pacesetter Long Tubes, ORY, and a Flowmaster Cat Back ...

Everyone always talks about how restrictive the FM Cat back is ... I got mine for free so I took it for a grain of salt. But when I do the heads and cam this winter, I want to go to something that wont choke it up as much ...

I am open to suggestions, but dont want to spend a fortune on it as the heads cam thing will already set me back quite a bit of $$$. But heres what I thought:

A single E-Cutout on the Y. (May have trouble getting this stickered)

A used Hooker, or Borla cat back.

Biting the bullet and getting a GMMG

Going Broke and buying a Mufflex 4" with a spin tech on it.

What do you guys think would sound/perform the best? I love how mine sounds now, but I dont want too much restriction when I build it.

GMMG hands down. I picked mine up on a group purchase for 700 with the premium tips. I love the way it sounds and at idle it sounds great but at WOT watch out, it sounds even better. This is bad because then it leads to being at WOT all the time and cops dont like that!!

You forgot one: True duals with dumps. That's what I run and I love it. It's nice to pull in to places and rattle the windows.

i think that a cutout after the y-pipe is a good idea, and is very cost effective as far as horsepower. but what about going to true duals with an x-pipe and have some bullets dumped before the axles. had ypipe-->cutout setup and it was pretty cool but i got some 2.5" duals/xpipe/bullets and had some better results. with the duals and skinnies i cut about .3 off my 1/4 mile and gained a few mph as well. wasnt anything too spectacular but i only had LT's/stall/et streets so it might be a little better since your going H/C. again just a thought, if you can fit them on your car. my vote would be for an e-cutout since you can quiet down the car if you need to.

sweetred95ta, didnt see your post but you hit it on the nail with the window rattle. if you think that duals and bullets are loud, try it without the bullets. im running it like that on my new LE2 cammed 355 and it sounds bad ***. everyone thinks that its a track car, but they dont believe me when i tell them its my DD

A cutout on the ypipe.. with the catback of your choice (sound preference) for cruising purposes.

I was thinking an E-cutout on the I pipe before the muffler.

Duals would be sweet, I'm not sure how much power you'd gain though.
What are the emmisions laws like in PA? I'm guessing TD is not an option for you.

Just put a cutout in the y-pipe. Your crapmaster is the same diameter I-pipe as all the others you mentioned (except Mufflex) so you won't really see any gains with one over the other. I run a Borla and have a e-cutout instead of the plates. Close it for quiet cruises and then open it for WOT runs or when I just want to hear it.

Yeap, works for me. I have a single 3" exhaust, flowmaster single in-dual out, sounds great cruising. When you need more power, i have an e-cutout on the i-pipe right in front of the rear passenger tire. Check my the kill story section to see the difference w/ the cutout open and closed against a ported blower cobra.

Re: Which exhaust would you run (On HC car)? Poll.

Thanks guys ...

I think I am either going to go with a E-Cutout on the Y, or do a true dual set up. If I do true duals, Im still undecided about going over the axle of not. I'll have to talk to my boss first too and make sure he will sticker it for me that way. True duals might be too loud for his taste. He dont need any red flags at his shop ... If I can get away with it, believe me I would do duals in a minute. They sound AWESOME.
