An exhaust that will be good sounding and NOT obnoxious...

I know the term obnoxious is purely subjective, but basically, I want an exhaust for my Z28 that will be near-stock at idle (for MA inspections, it has to be), and have a good, solid sound at part throttle...and evil at WOT But I don't want to constantly hear my exhaust...

So I was thinking Corsa, but I can get the SLP dual dual exhaust through work (a Pontiac dealer) for $200 less than the Corsa Pro Series 3.5". How do they compare? Are there any other exhausts I should look at? Again, I want decent sound, not a loud obnoxious car, and quality does matter. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have a Corsa on my 2001 Z28. It sounds great at idle, WOT and cruising on the highway. No annoying resonance at cruising and it roars at WOT. The system bolted right in no problems. I'm not familiar with how the SLP sounds so I can not offer any comparisons for you. However, I would definitely buy another Corsa if the occasion ever arrises.

SLP's "2 on the left" is the best sounding system I have ever heard.

WITHOUT A DOUBT! Quiet at idle, mean at WOT.

I agree with Jeff - in fact he described the sound of his SLP 2OTL to me so well I bought one. Absolutely best sound you can have with a fairly quiet idle, and a real rip when you get on it.

but doesnt look right on a sports car, I put a magna flow on instead of my TOTL and it sounds almost the same, a little deeper idle, and about the same the rest, but a deeper downshifting.
didnt notice any power loss or gain. did notice it looks a HELL of a lot better though.

Might want to consider Dynomax as well.

my magnaflow is the PERFECT volume. it has an amazing tone, yet quiet at idle. cruising it is quiet, and when you give it some gas, it has the nicest sound. i would highly recommend it to anyone

I think for the quiet-stock and loud-WOT type of exhuast, the two favorites of teh board are either the slp 2otl, or the hooker catback.

I myself have a hooker catback and I love it - much better than the flowbastards I threw away in favor of hookers.

I haven't heard an slp 2otl in person yet, so I can't really say...

Try a Dynomax Super Turbo. Pretty quiet, although extremely deep. Has a pretty mean sound when you get on it. If you want slightly louder, try an Ultraflow. They're both really mean sounding without being obnoxious. They are both available with dual outlets.

I have heard a stock 97 Z28 with a Magnaflow, and it sounded just like you described: quiet at idle, and very loud at WOT. Great, muscular tone as well.

With what you want, you really can't go wrong with the Hooker, Magnaflow, SLP 2OTL, Random Tech, ATR, Corsa, B&B Triflow, etc... They are all kind of quiet at idle/cruise, but roar at WOT.

Best sound is totally subjective. Out of that group, only heard the 2OTL in person on a few LT1's and it sounds very deep/throaty with a good refined rumble that is not too loud. I also like the look of it too(very unique).

Don't get the SLP dual/dual, unless you still want to keep the stock sound.
