exhaust system questions

First off i have a 97 z28 with the eibach sportline susp 1.75" drop, and i am putting on pacesetter lt's, i was wondering if i should just go true dual or if i should buy the ypipe and put two cutouts on the y pipe right by where each header hooks up and delete the cat and run it to my flowmaster catback? Would i have any lights come on though if i put my cutouts on the ypipe?
I Really wanted true duals and to get two dummie cats and then have cutouts and then a muffler, but would i have nothing but problems with clearance or anything?i dont know to much so i was asking for some input, thanks

Re: exhaust system questions

You might run into clearance issues if you run dummy cats and the cutouts. Out of the box, your y-pipe looks like it will handle all of that stuff, but once you put it on the car, you will see that you will have issues with the torque arm, fuel/brake lines. Also, you will need a smaller cat to go on the drivers side because you do not have a whole lot of room to work with over there. I used a pair of Pypes Mini-Cats and they fit pretty well. Also, as long as you put 02 simulators on the rear 02 sensor connectors or have the rear 02 sensors deleted from your PCM, you will not have to worry about the SES light coming on.

Re: exhaust system questions

how much power are you planning ot make in the long run.

some nice compact 2.5" duals would tuck up nicely in the underbody.

you could also run a Ypipe, but remove the connector and run 2 pipes side by side back and over the axle. throw an magnaflow X pipe in there and call it a day.

i would be willing to bet that the collectors will be the lowest part if done properly. i'd also be willing to bet that the flanges on the cutouts would hang lower than the collectors.

Re: exhaust system questions

I have the dual cutout setup on my car. If you want to put the cutouts directly behind the header on a lowered car you may run into ground clearance issues. The reason being is because the drivers side has the fuel lines and the cutout is directly below them, so you have to rotate the cutout slightly to give the lines adequate clearance from the exhaust. On my stock ride height car, I still have scraped that cutout a number of times. you could try putting the cutout further back on the y-pipe where the pipe go together at a 45. You could still have the two cutouts but wouldn't run into fuel line clearance problems.
