Exhaust question

I am new to the Z28 scene and need some help. I have a completely bone stock 94 Z28 that I just bought. I am looking to get an exhaust and possibly headers and don't understand what things like long tube header or mid length header means. I was looking at an SLP loudmouth exhausr because I hear the sound is great. Is this a good exhaust? Also, what is a Y-pipe?? Any helpwould be appreciated. Thanks.

headers come in 3 lengths shorties, mids, or long tubes it refers to the lengths of the primaries. Alos headers come in emission and non-emission headers, if you have to pass inspection you need to buy emission headers, if inspection isnt a problem then get non-emission headers. 4th gen cars dont have dual exhaust they only have a single exhaust so the Y-pipe connects the 2 ends of the headers to the single exhaust and is shaped like a Y, which is why its called the Y-pipe. SLP loudmouth does sound good, one of my firends has it on his car, it sounds good and is really loud

Re: Exhaust question

the formula i bought already had shorties and flowmaster catback so i didnt change them out. The sound is pretty good but needed an improvement after a while . so i removed the catalytic converter (bolton for emissions) and installed an electric cutout (best sounding a WOT). My car turns heads and rolls up windows because of the cutout.

Re: Exhaust question

I have heard a bunch of SLP loudmouths and they do sound great but the Corsa cat-back has the best tone of them all. Its not quite as loud and raspy but it definitely sets your car apart and sounds nasty.
