Exhaust Question

Over the past couple weeks, I've had a problems working my exhaust from the y-pipe back.

I have pacesetter long tubes, and their offroad y-pipe.

I had a horrible time matching the y-pipe to the existing cat-back. The previous owner told me that he had a flowwmaster cat-back installed. After we cut it, the muffler pipe measured barely under 3-inches, but when i tried to match it up to the y-pipe, the difference was too large to overcome with a u-bolt clamp.

My question is, what is the stock intermediate pipe size? I just read a thread where they said it was 2.75". If this is true, it explains all of my problems, the cheap jerko just had a new muffler & tips put on, not a catback.

I eventually fixed it by getting a 3" extension pipe and cutting flaps into it, then u-bolting it down over the muffler pipe.

Re: Exhaust Question

The stock pipe is 2 3/4" in diameter. Some exhaust shops charge you for a Flowmaster catback and just add the muffler and tips. A pretty good scam for first time Z/28 owners. A local shop here did it to my buddy, I showed him what they did and how they lied. Needless to say he was quite pissed. Good job making it work though.
