Exhaust with no cats
Exhaust with no cats
Planning on ditching the cats and was wanting to know how the car would sound with a stock muffler? I know it will be louder than stock but anything would be an improvment over the flow turd I have on it now!
I don't want it to be as loud as it is now or have that annoying popping sound that the flow turd makes!

all you will gain is the smell of the gasoline in your car. If you have stock exhaust dont !CAT. The best thing that you can do is put cutout....I had !CAT and flowmaster muffler with stock piping and it wasnt that laod at all. But when I changed it to 3" cat back with shorties it was much louder that car with cat.

Your car will be considerably louder. I know of 1 guy who pulled his muffler only and one guy who gutted his cat but left the stock muffler. It was quite a surprise when the guy with the gutted cat had the louder car! Oh and yes you will definitely smell the difference too.
Well, if you find a shop to do it for you, have them flange the cats, and then make straight pipe replacement. That way you can swap back and forth if desired, and you can put the cats back on for smog police if needed.
Whatever you do, don't just gut your existing cats.

A buddy of mine has a Flow catback and Edelbrock headers with no cats and it sounds great. Nice rumble, great WOT scream, but a little rasp. Other buddy has manifolds, no cats and Hooker cat back and it also sounds great. Not quite as loud but with no rasp. I say just get a cut out.
